Wow, thought we were getting a bargain but now realize that we got totally screwed.
Major water damage in the walls, we have started scraping the wallpaper and sheeting off in the bedroom to see how bad the situation really is and wow it is BAD. Screws all rusty holding blinds, and shelves. Just wondered what is the best way to seal/coat the roof? And any suggestions on fixing the interior walls (once we have the roof repaired. Can we just scrape and then add plywood or something or what any help anyone????????
Thanks so much, just trying to make the best out of this. Already spent more money to get inspected and get the generator working.

Chalk it up and move on. We bought an older motorhome once and loved the old thing but not what it would of taken to set it up the way we wanted. Lost our butts on it but we got rid of it, traded it back into the same dealership that sold it to us. It will empty your pockets in a hurry!

thats a great IDEA ,trade it back to the people that sold it to you,bet they new about the leaks etc. a 20yr old rig is going to have lots of hidden troubles.

My gosh that guy is probably half way to Vegas by now hahahah. For real though, I can't afford to do that. All I have is some time to try and repair this old heap. My kids are already bugging me to try and plan a trip for next year. So any other ideas or suggestions??? I'd appreciate it

seal/coat the roof - see www.polycoatings.com

...but good luck (sealing the roof still leaves the structural damage to be repaired)

Is the roof rubber, metal, etc? If it is just seams and other openings leaking Eternabond is about as good as it gets and sources are in another current thread.

Since you are into fixing it already stick with it for a while. We had more roof issues then we knew at the time of purchase and have replaced several rustly screws. I think $100 of Eternabond tape will seal most seam and joint leaks. Is it a Class A or C at 34'?

Try to stick with it for a while because you are not only the third person to get a leaker. Short of holes forming in the roof typically they can be made dry again. The roof may look like******especially if the decking has go wet over a long period but once you seal the leaks it should not get worse.

Have you walked on your roof yet? If so how did it feel?

It is a Class A, with a fiberglass roof. Walked on roof and it felt actually fairly sturdy. We initially sealed with silicone (I will have to look into that Eternabond), and are tearing apart the walls in the bedroom, which indicate prolong water exposure. Just aren't sure of how to repair the walls now. We stripped the paper and most of the wall board/plywood that was underneath because it was rotted pretty bad (just kinda flaked off). Now we have a layer of I guess some sort of thin plywood (like 1/8"), and it looks like styrofoam or something under that. What can I hang over this, or do I just paint it???? The steel bar across the roofline (inside) was rusty but I scraped rust off and sprayed with rustoleum. Have other leaks in walls in main cab area and kitchen just not sure if I should rip those walls apart too or what? However at present don't think roof is still leaking, think silicone has been a temporary fix for now.

In our case we just really had to look close to find where the water was getting through the roof. Often it is a process of elimation. I wonder if silicone can do the job long term either. Eternabond will stick to nearly everthing EXCEPT silicone.

Watch the videos on the Eternabond site on how to do roof repairs. I learned a lot there being new to the whole RV leaking roof thing.

I think the best thing is to cut your losses and get rid of it. What your describing is a no win situation... Unless you like to patch and repair for a hobby. Its like wiping your butt on a hoop, no end to it!
