CK is exactly right, I have an 06 Eagle, 400 hp Cat, weighs around 36K
and his figure of 6.5 to 7.2 is right on the money, It just doesn't seem to matter how you drive it. I truly believe you couldn't get better mileage if you pushed it off a cliff. I love to hear these guys telling anyone who will listen, they get 11 plus MPG with the same type coach, I was born at night, just not last night.

We have a 2006 Beaver Monterey Cat 400 and usually average between 8 - 9 on an open highway. 7 if we experience switch-backs on country roads or coast highway of Oregon or California. Not towing anything.

Because of the design of the fuel tanks on most DP's, you can't get an average mpg from one tank to another. At any given fill-up, depending on coach angle, these tanks can be off by 5-10 gallons. Any good mileage estimate needs to be made over several fill-ups.
We've made two 2500-3000 trips the last two years over flat and mountainous terrain where the first and last fill-up occurred at the same station and the same island/pump.
The first trip we averaged 8.2 mpg on our 28000 pound coach with the Cummins ISL 400 driven at 63 mph.
This year, we averaged 8.7 mpg while towing, but we reduced our speed to 57 mph and tried to eliminate hard acceleration and racing up grades.

I have the Cat C-9 (400hp) and a 40 foot coach that weights 34,000 pounds and I get 6.5 mile per gallon and I tow. does'nt matter if it is on a highway, going up or down hills, winter or summer. It is a constant 6.5 according to my information center mileage gauge.
