Wow, when I read these things about mileage, I'm kind of happy that my little 190HP Cummins pushes my 37&1/2' rig around at a solid 10.2MPG over the last 44,000 miles. Course I only weigh in at 23,000 lbs. with no slides, but it's comfortable.

I saw a show on fuel tank design that was real interesting. The inlet for the tank is placed so that the tank only fills to 80% capacity. It's to allow for the expansion of fuel as it warms up. If the tank would fill 100% it could potentially burst from this expansion. I do think it tends to skew the mileage figures of otherwise well intentioned folks.

I'm one of the guys that get 11mpg. Really. When parked.
Driving what ever speed is 6.8 - 7.6 really.

Correct, if you look at the bottom of any nozzle at the pump, youll see a little hole that when it sees fuel it shuts off the handle by using a diafram. In the fuel tank thier is a tube along side of the fillhose connected to a valve/vent in the tank, once gas hits the valve, it shuts off venting and allows the gas to fill up to the nozzle shutting it off
Fuel can expand as much as 6% over a 40-60 degree diference, the fuel system suppliers try to account for this through venting (hot day in AZ in ground temp at 65 degrees tank in vehical is at over 100)

Depending on speed I get between 6.5 and 7.0 mpg figured mathematically over several tanks of fuel.

Just completed 12800 mile round trip to AK, 7.5 MPG.

2004 Holiday Rambler Imperial, 400hp Cummins. 3200 miles from California to Connecticut, towing Jeep Grand Cherokee at 55mph...9.3mpg. Coming back, same route, same tow, same speed...8.8mpg. Differences: prevailing winds blow west to east, giving a boost to eastbound mpg; second was hit rain on westbound trip, increasing rolling resistance. Prior to dropping my average speed from 65 to 55, got somewhere around 7.7mpg.

Mileage numbers are off the Aladdin computer system in the motorhome. Have not yet checked it against fill-up data. Am waiting for enough fill-up data before doing that check.

I have a running spreadsheet of actual miles and gallons used for over 6 years cummulative. My 6 year average with a 300HP 8.3L Cummins and 33,000 Combined Vehicle weight with 40% Mountain driving and generator operation is 7.24 MPG.

2007 Beaver Contessa, 42', weight 39,000 loaded. Cummins 400Hp ISL. Just got back from a 12,000 mile trip to Alaska towing a Saturn Vue. Average 7.16 MPG calculated by actual gallons used. I have made no adjustment for considerable genset and Hydrohot usage. Used 741 gallons going to Alaska and 841 gallons after the new engine was installed in Fairbanks. Speed was 63-65 mph on interstates and around 58-60 on other roads, conditions permitting.
