well we went on that camping trip for free down to thousand trails at soledad canyon and well we thought it was free. they did not metion to us about the presintaion that was 2 hrs. anyways did not know that the membership was about $12,000 and yearly dues were $700 so we had to pass this up hope we did the right thing? all in all we had fun while we werer there and enjoyed the stay
Do a search on 1000 Trails. Then if you like what they have to offer look for resales on E-bay. $12,000 plu $700 per year is obscene. Memberships can be found for pennies on the dollar with yearly dues less than $500. Some for transfer fees alone. But it's only worthwhile if you plan to use the preserves enough to justify the yearly dues.

If you were a fulltimer then even $12,000.00 would be a bargain. Camping year round, \you would make that up in just 3-years. Without a membership of some kind, you can figure on paying conservatively $350.00 to $400.00 a month to stay at private campgrounds and without the gated security that TT offers. I camp out at TT 12 months out of the year and pay $459.00 per year to do it. And yes I broke even in less than 3 years compared to what I was paying to travel cross country without the membership. So, TT membership does work for some of us.
I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.
Yes we did. We have stayed at many, many of the 1000 trails preserves, from Fl. to Wa.. We have been members for 4 yrs.. Our membership allows us to stay for 3 wks. at a time & we can move directly from park to park to park. We have spent all but 5 weeks in 1000 trails in 2008 & it has cost us $500, our yearly dues. Obviously we are happy with them, but you will find a lot of contrasting views. Basically it comes down to what your looking for. We have found the campground staff to be very nice & willing to go out of their way to be of service. We avoid the sales staff! LOL! Like I said, do a search in this forum, you'll find volumes of info.
Sure surprised me. Last I heard the price was about $7500.00. Guess they are going up like gasoline. I got the invite also but I didn't feel like listening to the 90 minute presentation again.

I don't think he qualifies for resales now that he has attended a presentation at one of their campgrounds. I think he now has to wait something like three years?
in a previous thread I copied the following and remarked that I thought it was so well worded that I was going to post it in the future when these questions came up.

I sat through one of those 3 day free things at Thousand Trails in La Connor Washington a year or so ago. Unfortunately it rained the entire time we were there. That showed us that the place was in serious need of gravel as everything was pretty much dirt/mud.
There were three of them 'against' me and they really wanted my fiance to attend the session. I stood my ground and said I can make my own decisions whether to purchase or not. They caved and gave me their sales pitch.
Of course I did not buy. The price started at like 10k and dropped to about half and then they started talking about this membership or that..blah blah blah.
Also, our free site was not full hookup. It was only 30 amp no water, no sewer, no cable
The buildings smelled funny and everything was very run down.
You have to remember that when you buy in, there is no guarantee that any of these parks will be here next year. Campgrounds get sold.
I do see the value in buying a resale membership if I was a full timer or camped at least 30 nights a year.
Otherwise the yearly fees, which do not stay frozen unless you are over a certain age, are not worth even a free membership in my opinion.
I would stay at pay parks until you know exactly what you plan on doing.
