I have a trailsaver hitch that rattles and bangs around when not towing. Is this side to side motion adding to undo wear and tear? Does anyone familiar with this hitch know of a way to hold the mechanizm down so it won't rattle so much when empty?

Call the factory and they will help. That is what I did when I thought that I had a problem. I suspect that your problem is the head bouncing back and forth because the hitch frame being supported by the airbags should not move any amount when not hooked up f you have even a little air pressure on it. Call the factory.
I think my trailersaver hitch is the best hitch that I have ever used.

Which hitch do you have? I have the stationary 26k and had the same problem. It would bounce back and forth right/left left/right when turning or going through bumps. I put 2 small bungee cords on one side from the head plate bracket wrapping around the hitch frame cross bar.

I had a Trailer Saver also, the best Air Ride hitch on the market (IMO). I also had the TS cover and covered the head with a plastic bag and put a rubber bungy cord over it, no rattle. GBY...

I called the factory about the same issue. They recommended using a bungee cord to hold the head in place to keep it from knocking around as others are doing here on this thread. They also said it isn't hurting anything... it's just noisy.
I'm happy with my TrailerSaver as well. I'd do it again.

If we are talking about the TrailerSaver hitch that uses a Binkley head, I've seen on some of the Trailersavers, a pair of coil springs attached to the hitch head to keep it tilted to the rear for sliding under the pin-box and those springs also served to keep the head from wobbling side to side. I have an AirGlyder with the Binkley head that has those springs as well and my hitch head stays centered without the wobbles.

I agree with others on this post that this is the best hitch I've ever had and I've had three. I used the bungee cord idea already but they break. I'll try again with more of them and longer ones that can wrap around the whole thing. Thanks.

I dont suspect the hitch type matters. They all are held in the trucks with pins, not bolts, and the pins are removeable with your fingers. There will be slop. Additionally, they have pieces in they that move, slide, rotate, push, pull, etc and they too will have slop. I have tried making rubber washers (some did work but dont last and get lost). Problem is they have to be very very thin and are hard to make.
Usually what makes the most noise is the head rocking back and forth - Bungee cords is the best answer for this problem.
