Has anyone dealt with their locale city officials about low hanging city tree branches hitting the top of their trailer while pulling their trailer on city streets?

When I worked for a city, we did have problems with areas where the tree was not healthy enough.
The City will not remove a limb unless it is a dead limb in danger of falling. Sometimes during a bad windstorm, a branch will crack, and then it has to be removed. This is not difficult to imangine with a 2" diameter tree limb, but the larger ones don't crack very easy.
A good friend used to slice the tree bark and put in Mirical Grow in the cut. Then a small limb will grow out of the side of the tree where the slice is. Tree folks call these extra limbs "Suckers".
Well the City guy was looking over the "Bush" that was a city tree in front of his house, and said "I have never seen a tree with so many sucker branches on it" as he cut away about 50 branches that where all about 15" long on the tree. The bark was cut the next weekend, and more Mirical Grow was on order. . . .

We "re-modeled" the front yard a few years ago... The tree in the area between the sidewalk and street is approx 50 years old, and was sending roots all the way under our house (70' away!) The City trimmers were out one day, and I asked them about removing the tree. Nope. Not unless it's diseased or dead. But they said I could trim it as much as I wanted. So, when the sprinkler system was put in, I cut all the roots within 3' of the tree, and cut the branches back even with the curb, so the trailer doesn't hit them.
Nobody said a word.

I've often wondered about this. Not so much as the trees out on the streets in front of my house but on some of the streets I travel to get to the interstate. It seems there are a couple of low hangers that I straddle the line to keep it from hitting the trailer.
The thought has crossed my mind but, no I never have called.

The city I am in came out and gave my neighbor notice that they were going to cut if he did not but neither has ever trimmed them back. I can not go one direction in an older part of town with out driving on the wrong side of the road but the other way has new homes with no trees so I have never complained. The neighbor was going to see if they would bill him or if they just did it but as I said they still are hanging low. So some cities will trim them just now sure at whos expense.

Here we are not supposed to trim city trees. They they have a 3 man crew with a long list. They will be out in about 3 years, no kidding. I can't go and cut tree branches every where. My area was new a while back. Now the trees have grown large enough to cause problems. If you dodge the trees a city cop will tag you. You hit the branches and cause around $10,00 damages like I did. Maybe the city and police think we should not be moving our trailers. These people don't care. Just what do you do? What the H--- do they think i'm to do?

To the ones that have tree problems i suggest you contact the elected official in your precient and attend all city meetings. You will get a lot better results from the city council if you put yourself on the agenda and stand up to speak. Some states require your request to speak to the council be put on the agenda 72 hours before the meeting. There will be press that writes an article in the newspaper as to what was discussed in the meetings.
You can also contact the city service center and talk to the crew foreman but that request is usually thrown in the trash can as soon as you hang up the phone. If you do plan on speaking to the city council just be professional, polite and straight to the point.

If you are asking if the city is responsible for damage to your RV caused by you hitting their tree limbs, the answer is no they are not. You may be fined for damaging their tree if you hit one though.
