We are currently cruising south on Colorado 17 (on our way to Taos NM tonight). If you're bored - tune in to http://nav.chino.com and view our live webcam from the dashboard of our Class B. This has got to be the straightest road we've been on! I wish you could all see the mountains on either side though, the views are awesome!

The longest straight road in the U.S. and maybe the world is US 34 in Nebraska. It runs from just north of Milford, NE to east of Union, NE without a wiggle. Traveling east out of Lincoln you can see the curvature of the earth as you top the hills. Must run 60 miles without a twitch.

No question, both of these roads are straight.
CO 17 from Villa Grove to Alamosa is about 55 miles.
US 34 from east of Lincoln to Union is about 60 miles.

However, traveling both by land and seeing both roads from 40,000 ft, my vote is for US54 from Plains, KS to Tucumcari, NM at 250 miles.
Yes, it has some very slight turns, but you can't see it at ground level.

I live in West Virginia. I have read that the straightest road in the state is a guy's driveway in Charleston that runs about 53 feet from his garage out to the street in front of his house.

looks to me like 34 goes a long way west of Milford without much of a wiggle.

You need to drive I-5 in California - its straight part runs over 200 miles. I know someone who once drove almost 100 miles on it with only their knee wedged under the steering wheel.

US 34 is fairly straight from Milford to Ne highway 79 which is west of Lincoln, then it becomes part of Interstate 180 and actually runs north/south until it hits "O" street (goes by the UNL football stadium)then once out of Lincoln it is fairly straight until it jogs north at US 75 and goes into Plattesmouth. I don't know about being able to see the curvature of the earth, it is mostly straight but does go up and down. That part of Nebraska is not flat, it is "rolling hills". I have driven that hunk of road thousands of times in the last 45 years.

From Wikipedia. North Dakota State Highway 46 is a 123 mile (198 km) road in eastern North Dakota, crossing the Red River Valley between Streeter and Oxbow. It parallels and runs about twenty miles south of Interstate 94, and is the longest stretch of straight road in North America. Interstate 29 borders it on the east and North Dakota 30 borders it on the west.
