Stayed at Rutledge Lake near Fletcher, NC last fall. Nice. Looked at all the others in Ashville via the forums and don't regret the choice. We are going to be in Cades Cove in about 3 weeks.
You may want to check RVParkReviews.com. They're a great resource! There are several recently reviewed campgrounds. Campfire Lodgings and Asheville Bear Creek Resort had good reviews.
The KOA and Jelly Stone parks, in Cherokee have had good reviews as well. Good luck... the area is gorgeous!!
The office help at Bear Ck. was just plain rude. Campfire Lodging looks nice, but I haven't visited there yet. For no-hookups cheaper camping, Lake Powhatan at Bent Ck. Rec. Area or Mt Pisgah on the BRP.

If you like beautiful and don't mind primitive, try Lake Powhatan Rec Area just west of Ashville. The setting is great in the woods and hills and has good access to town. Some of the sites have electric and water, but not many of them.
Another option further from town is Cascade Lakes Rec Area near Brevard. Adds about 15 miles of driving, but most of it is dual lane with little traffic so not bad. Gates do close from 11pm to 7am(?) so that needs to be taken into account. Their season also ends Oct 31.
