I have a older Atwood hot water heater. It will not lite when I turn on the switch. I cleaned the burner and the pilot. I can smell gas. But it is not lighting. I am thinking it might be the ignition control. Any way to be sure. Does $150.00 sound right for this part? The website said the part was non refundabe. Thank you.

If you smell gas I would suspect all the limits are ok. I would try holding a long lighter in from of the burner just as it gets ready to light. If it lights I would check the spark electrode for proper gap and see if it is sparking.

Sure sounds like you're getting no ignition spark. You'ld hear it if it occurs. This is under control of the control module, and, NO, $150 is not a fair price. Contact RG-electrospec.com for verification, and if needed, buy a Dinasaur board from them, with the cover. Can't go wrong there! I gave about $105 for mine.
