And you might want to tip off the grocery store management as to what's going on in their lot, too.

Scammer, Wal-Mart does not even allow people to solicit on their parking lots. I would turn him into management and the police.

DW was approached in the grocery store parking lot by a man offering to fix a dent in our truck's rear door for $250. She called me and asked if I wanted her to do it. I told her I would have to think about it and for her to get the man's name and number. Anyway, while she was on the phone to me the man and an associate popped the dent out. After she hung up, they demanded payment of the $250. She refused to pay, telling them that she had never agreed for them to do the work in the first place. Personally, I think $250 is too much for them to just pop the dent out, it's not totally repaired but does look better than it did. So what do you think, should DW have paid him the $250?

I recently paid to have a dent popped out and it cost $75 and you can't even tell the dent was there. The answer is, no she should not have paid.

The question not answered in the O/P's post is how the dent got there in the first place (Did they create it)

I do agree, since she had told them she'd check with hubby, she did not authorize the work and thus is not liable for payment. The two men should be questioned by someone wearing a nice properly pressed shirt, a pair of trousers with a stripe down the leg, A wide black leather belt with a few things hanging on it and a small piece of metal pinned over the breast pocket on the shirt.

The dent was put in the door "anonymously" in another parking lot, in a nearby town 6-8 months ago.

Money amount on side -the guys did a good job and most of readers would have them arrested for it.

Sounds similar to the tactic squeegee kids use. Even though you don't want it, they still perform the task and demand money for it.

The proper way of conducting the business would've been giving them business cards or flyers. If they are interested, have them call to make an appointment to have the job done.

They had no right touching your vehicle without your wife's express consent which she did not give.

They probably had no right to be in the grocery store parking lot soliciting the store's customers.

The next time your wife is approached by anyone, in person or on the phone, tell her the easiest and safest thing to do is to say NO THANK YOU and keep walking or hang up.

For the record I am a woman, I would not have paid, and I would have hung up from my husband and called the police.
