Does anyone know of any good deals on a Sterling, something like the X-plan or $$$$ off, or some dealer really giving a great deal on one? We just started considering one, but seeing as they're not one of the big 3, they don't seem to have much in the way of purchase programs.
We're looking at the Bullet 45 and while they look nice, I haven't yet had a chance to test drive one (rough ride?).
Does any one know how their MPG numbers are for this truck? We currently have a 2000 F350 PSD 7.3 Crew Cab 4X4 and I've heard nothing but bad about the new 6.4's with regard to fuel mileage (most new trucks for that matter), so thats one of the reason's that I'm looking at the Sterling, the Cummins.

Just so you know, it is basically a Dodge with a different grille. The Dodge 4500 and 5500 are basically the same truck. They roll off the same assembly line.
I wasn't sure you were aware and thought I would point that out. I have no idea about what types of incentives are available. Good luck to you!

No the Sterling uses the same Aisin automatic that the Dodge 4500 and 5500 uses. This is not the same as the 68RFE that is used in the regular Dodge 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks.
Aisin, not Allison.
And just for the record, Dodge automatics behind the Cummins have proven very reliable since 2003.
The manual trans in the Sterling is the same G56 used in the Dodge. The Sterling trucks come with the exhaust brake included in the standard price. If you get it with the automatic, the pto hookup is included on the Sterling. In both the Sterling and the Dodge chassis-cab trucks, the Cummins power is de-rated compared to the 2500/3500 pickups. The chassis-cab trucks are available with lower axle ratios than those offered in the pickups. Other than that, the Sterling and Dodge 4500/5500 chassis-cabs are the same truck, except for the grille and emblems. I like the Sterling grille a little more than the Dodge grille.

SoCalGuy and I some posts on this truck back in June when I was in Idaho. A deealer in Idaho Falls had some on his web site. Of course all are cab/chassis. Check with your insurance agent, as flatbeds etc. sometimes change the price of your policy. One thing that did standout was they evidently come with 19.5 or 22.5 tires. This would be a plus, as the 17" on Dodges have a very limited field of replacement tires. 19.5 or 22.5 have many, many purchase options. By using the bigger wheels, did they put larger brakes on these trucks?
Front brake rotor and caliper piston size provides superior stopping, improved vehicle control and lower brake
maintenance costs.
The brake system includes the following features:
Standard ABS for optimum braking performance and handling
Standard four-wheel disc brakes
Drum-in-hat parking brake system that holds the truck at GVW on a 30% grade
Large front and rear rotors, made possible by the use of 19.5 in. wheels, and larger linings, increase braking power, extend lining life, and increase heat dissipation."
And so far, I did a build on-line and I didn't see much, if any price difference between the Dodge 4500 & Sterling Bullet, but maybe I'm not reading it correctly.
I still have a long way to go in checking this out before deciding which way to go for our next truck.
