If thats the case, I guess that I could make room for one
No matter how slow the market is they act like they have the last one around and someone else is comming back to buy it tonight.... I've seen that game played. I'd be happy getting a $45k truck for lower 30's, kind of like someone that got a $52k truck for $39-ish.....

And just for the record, Dodge automatics behind the Cummins have proven very reliable since 2003
Just for the record.....I have a 27 year old son and 42 other Cummins owners that would throw the "BS" flag on that statement. He is battling Dodge right now over tranny #4. They told him today that his warranty expired at 36K no matter how many miles it had when he bought it new. The truck has 36438 on it, he bought it NEW with 617 miles. They offered a $500 concession toward the replacement ($5372.35). The dealer has had 43 tranny replacements/rebuilds on 2007 models. That's 8% of their total Cummins automatic sales. I wouldn't call that "Proven Reliable"...

BS flag picked up, and thrown right back at ya!
Everything I have read and heard at the dealership, campgrounds, and everywhere else has proven without a shadow of a doubt the 48RE transmission is a very reliable transmission. I have simply not read anything even remotely similar to your claims. Your son obviously got a lemon, but what the heck do you do to tear up 4 transmissions? Perhaps operator error?
On edit, I notice you mention 2007 models. Are you talking about the new 6 speed auto?

4 transmissions in 36,000 miles? Why would he let the dealer keep putting transmissions in his truck. Its obvious they don't know how to work on them. I'd be looking for a different dealer.
How much power has he added to the stock engine?
There are thousands of guys running up to 100hp over stock and the 48RE holds up pretty darn well to the abuse.
If he spends over 5k for a stock Dodge tranny,he is nuts. For that kind of cash,he could have a kickbutt aftermarket tranny installed that won't fail again.
