We had a RK in our 05 Keystone Challenger and loved it. Our new 08 Montana has one as well.

We have a Doubletree 36RK3 rear kitchen and we love it. We have never had any problem with items being moved around or falling. It has a lot more cooking area and the counter space is very nice.

Team Daybreak: I have not seen a Doubletree 36R3 rear kitchen. Not even in brochures. What year is yours. Elite, Mobile, or Select Suite? Thanks

Ours is not a fifth wheel, but we do have rear kitchen. Just purchased our 2008 Jayco Jayflight 31RKS and after 1st trip out, I love my rear kitchen....
I can prepare food and be cooking and have plenty of counter space and room to get it done. 1st trip out 2 weeks ago, I had started supper and it started raining so DH moved grill under edge of awning to try to finish grilling, while I finish everything else inside along with all 10 guests up in camper...No one was in my way while I was working in the kitchen area. In fact sister in law was able to stand on one side of counter and help. Loved not having anyone in my way.....
Happy Camping to all in 2009!

The reason or one of the reasons we like the rear kitchen is we can see out both sides of the alpenlite. sitting in my chair I can see out the front window of the side as well the big windows plus the rear window is large above the kitchen counter. Center kitchens seem like a dark rv to us however this only buy what you like best, we did.

Our 2870UK Jazz may not be in the class of 5'er's you're looking for, but I love my rear kitchen. Even though the DH does a great deal of grilling outside, the abundance of counter space allows me to prepare side dishes with ease ~ I can lay out all my pans, utensils, etc. without stacking something or having to constantly put something away just for space. And there's still room for small appliances and a dish rack full of washed dishes.
I, too, wanted the large living room window at the rear and we assumed a kitchen at the back would add more weight to the tail-end, causing a bumpy ride. We didn't have a trailer of any sort in the past to compare, but have found that our layout rides very nicely. The fact so many are pleased with their rear kitchens, along with so many cabinets and counters, that we opted to forego the large viewing window; besides no traffic in my workspace. Also, we've learned how to distribute the weight throughout.
Happy & safe travels....JW

Ours is a 2005 Challenger 32TPK by Keystone, just love it! I did bounce a cantaloupe out of an overhead cupboard once, never put one up there again. You are right though, there is much more counter space and cupboard space for storage than in others, you will really enjoy it.

We've had several RK 5'ers, the latest being a 2004 Open Road 360RK. We liked the Rear Kitchens because of the counter space and having the kitchen out of the way of the rest of the camper traffic. We recently switched to a mid kitchen with a center island because we now have occasion for people to camp with us, and we wanted the sleeping area for the guests, opened-up couch, air matteress etc. to be out of the main traffic area in the camper. Our new Open Road also has a completely enclosed bathroom, not a walk-through, that provides more privacy when guests are on board. So, bottom line, if you are going to have over-night guests in your camper, you may want to consider sleeping arrangements before buying a RK model.
