Don’t buy State Farm RV insurance. I’ve had them for my homes, autos and RV’s for 30 years.
They are very good for homes and autos, but NOT RV’S. Gustav caused a large trees to fall and crush our beloved Hornet. State Farm came out to our second home where the TT was located to appraise damages but the adjuster told us he can’t calculate damages because they do not have the software to adjust RV’S. I was told this by everyone I spoke with at State farm. Duh? You sold me RV insurance and you have no why to adjust it? The adjuster that came out said it looked totaled to him. I was told that I had to bring it to a dealership to get an estimate of repairs.
I can’t tow a 33’ TT that has holes in it and parts hanging out of it. They had me to call a dealership to see if they can come out to do an estimate. Not one of 4 dealerships that I called would come to the location.
I found one who would do it by emailed photos. But I have to pay first, that’s ok. Now State farm wants me to call them from the dealership so they can make a decision to repair or not. The dealership is in another state I told them. Find a closer one I’m told. Duh? I just tried that. A few days later I got a call from State Farm that said they were ready to come tow away my HUMMER. I don’t own a Hummer. They also kept getting the TT location mixed up. I asked about all our personal items that are soaked inside. Oh. We don’t cover that. On top of all that the adjuster that came out told me to remove my Hensley Arrow before State Farm takes it if it’s declared totaled because the hitch is not damaged . Which I did, now I have no sway or equalizer control even if I wanted to tow it.
I’ve been handed off to no less than 5 adjusters some were even rude. All this WILL be taken cared of in the end, but do yourself a favor, if you have State Farm RV coverage get rid of it, if you don’t, don’t buy it. I learned the hard way.
RV insurance companies that specialize in RV’s is expansive but it will be worth every penny

We just recently had a claim on our RV, had to have the roof repaired. They did replace the roof-about $5,000-with no questions. However, when we had a tree fall on our house and damage the roof, they just wanted to patch, not replace, we ate that one. Like you, we have had State Farm for 30 years, 4 vehicles, house, rv, and boat. Have thought about looking elsewhere, but just haven't had the time.

Sorry to hear of your loss and the difficulties you are having with the State Farm adjusters. I would think that almost all the adjusters are being over worked due to Gustav and Ike. And true, some of them probbaly have never seen an RV. I would check the Policy and see if you insured the contents. Depending on what you bought, the contents of the RV may be covered by the Home Owners Policy.

I dropped State Farm about 17 years ago when I had a four wheeler stolen from my property. The adjuster was thrilled to let me know that it wasn’t covered under my home owners insurance plan. I told him in that case I did not need State Farm Insurance anymore. That four wheeler was worth $3500 dollars. I would say it’s cost them a lot more than it has me this last 17 years.
The front cap on my fith wheel got damaged by a garbage truck. The insurance I have now (Grange) got it fixed with no problems. Only the $ 250. deductable.

I had State Farm auto insurance since I could drive. BUT, when I got the RV they could not offer any decent rates so all policies went to the new company. You are correct that State Farm is not prepared to deal with RV insurance.

As far as your situation, (assuming you want it totalled) you should present them with as much evidence in your favor as to it's value and let them dispute it if they can. My experience with State Farm has been they are great with small claims but will fight to the death(yours) over any significant claims whether it is car, house, or RV. Just like any neighbor

Significant claims cost them more money.

As to the contents not being covered. All I can say is: Did you read the policy provisions when you bought the policy? If so then it should have been there, if so then you have no complaint about it now.
but it does sound like they don't know RV insurance!
But the advice to remove the hitch is good as they won't pay anything for it if they total the rig, just the depreciated book value which won't include the accessories either.

I'm not surprised the contents weren't covered. We had to purchase separate contents coverage. We're not with State Farm so I'm guessing that's common within the industry.

Maybe you should adjust your title to "Don't buy State Farm insurance IF you live in an Area that has a CHANCE of having a CATASTROPHE!" Come on, be fair here.
I did not work for State Farm but I sure competed against them and they are an excellent company with an excellent reputation for customer satisfaction.
Here you are admitting that the cause of your loss was a major hurricane that was regions wide and you are expecting business as usual from an over taxed insurance company? Did you think about the folks that have lost homes, commuting vehicles, necessary items that are and should be ahead of you in the settlement chain after a huge storm?
It is correct that MOST insurance companies do not have software on RV type vehicles because there aren't enough losses in those types of items to build and keep current replacement and repair information. Yes, I know, we here are all "into" our RVs but most of the waking world isn't--too many types of vehicles, too many models, too many lengths, etc., keep even the pro RVers busy sorting it all out.
In a normal loss in a normal time, an RV dealer would jump at the chance to come out and survey your loss but, in your area, these aren't normal times--they are anything but normal.
That State Farm and the dealers didn't snap to the minute you called should give you your first clue--they are busy with folks that really need service or who can tow their wrecks to the dealerships--not someone that is at the end of camping season that has had a minor (perhaps not to you) loss!
Like so many of the "I hate insurance" posts on this forum this one miscommunicates reality.
It does, however, smoke out every one with a dull State Farm ax that needs grinding, Keep this in mind as you let the sparks fly--State Farm insures more cars, homes, and RVs than any insurance company in the nation--there is a reason.
