Just realized last night while hooking up- my 16K Superglide has no hole for a handle lock. I have been dragging my 5er around for several years with nothing to lock the jaw handle in place. It has a "barb" on the handle that snaps in behind the plate, but nothing else. Anyone else have this setup? Is it OK like it is? You'd think Pullrite would have put lock provisions in if they deemed it to be needed.

What do you guys and gals think? Drill a lock hole in the handle? Leave it alone? What????????

See this post: Superglide Lock

A padlock in the position shown in this photo prevents the handle from being lifted past the "barb" stop:

I've been doing what BHAM showed in picture above.
Just put padlock into top part of the handle hole & handle wont have enought room to lift past the 'barb'
Works just fine in my case

Great link Dennis. Thank you. While reading that thread, there is a slight bit of controversy whether the lock is needed or not. However, I am not concerned with the jaws opening during a tow (I already have the red paint on the jaws and do a pull test 100% of the time). It would be almost an act of God for the pin to be slack at the EXACT same time I hit a pothole HARD ENOUGH to bounce the handle. That just ain't gonna happen. But if it did, I would be picking up truck bumpers and rims and tire fragments and suspension parts and.... No, I am more concerned with punks and the like yanking on the handle when I'm parked. I always do a walk around when we leave the trailer for any length of time (at rest stops, etc), but I COULD miss that. And yes, it would be easy to pull the jaws open if I was parked in such a way that the pin just happened to be slack in the jaws. I just thought it might help deter a potential inquisitive kid (or drunk adult).

Think I'll go ahead and put a little lock in the hole. No mods required and mission accomplished.

The reason I put the lock on mine is to insure that a prankster does not maliciously release my hitch while I'm away from the rig temporarily. It would be easy for me not to notice that it had been released ...

I'm not worried about it bouncing loose ... heck, it always takes a good hard pull to release it ... nothing IMO that a bounce could duplicate ...

When you slap the lock in the handle hole put the e-brake cable on the lock also and you are set to roll.

Padlock hole has been on here a lot.

At first I thought the OP was talking about these SG failure/problems:
These two threads should be . . . "SuperGlide REQUIRED READING"!)

"Pullrite Superglide hiccup" (spelling as indicated)
by "my3wags" -on- 4-24-07

Also -
"Superglide Hitch by Pull-right" (spelling as indicated)
by "capnit" -on- 9-28-06

will require advanced (archive) search.

Maybe somebody can link that - I can find 'em, but linking glitch (me?).
