Our 32' is 8800 lbs at the scale, and it gives my 2500 with 8.1 and 4.10 axle a real workout on the hills. I went up that grade on I-40 going west out of Asheville and headed toward Franklin, and I would have had to get out and push with the 5.3 or even the 6.0L in there...
Hey Burbman, not meaning to highjack the thread but I'm considering getting a Burb with the 8.1 for the little wifey and selling my CTD. What kind of mileage do you get loaded and unloaded? Hopefully I can find a 3.73 rear, 2 wheel drive. Thanks.

He said 1/2 ton, and that's you need to say when talking about Suburbans, year really doesn't make a difference.
Yeah, well, I respectfully disagree. Have you compared the frame of a GMT-900 half-ton vs the older 1/2 ton Suburbans? I realize the "ratings" are similar, but I left it open for those who have towed with old and new Suburbans.

Only reason I was toying with towing with the yukon is more room for the kids & junk. Been driving tractor trailers hauling grading equip for 15 yrs now so I look at 9500 pounds as next to nuthin, Esply considering our biggest trackhoe is over 80K. Was just curious who else has pulled with the yukon.
Towing experience is always a good thing, no doubt! With driver, kids, gear, tongue weight of a 8,500 lb TT, gas etc, the payload rating will likely be exceeded. That's the big concern.

I had an '03 Suburban with 5.3 ltr and towed a 5500 lb (dry) 25' TT. When loaded I was within 400 lbs of maxing out my tow rating of 7200 lbs. There was no power and I worried about the tranny. Sway was a problem when traveling interstate, not to mention just trying to get up to 65 mph so you didn't get run over.
Tonight we traded the burb for a 2006 Silverado quad cab with the Duramax/Allison combo. It's the real deal. I probably won't even know the 25' TT is back there.
Was thinking that was what I would try first. Hook to it with the yukon & run to town just to see. Pulled it 250 miles with the dodge when we bought it & of course couldn't tell it was even back there. I never have really worried about the manf GVWR rating, look at those like bridge weight limits "if they say 45tons they wont fall in at 60 tons" Know all that work will shorten the yukons life but allready has 115k on it so dont plan on havin it around much longer. Thanks everyone for their input & happy trails
