two questions i hope to pose in the same post......we've been going back home from indiana and today out in the middle of the utah desert, our LP gas detector sounded the alarm. shut off so fast, i didn't have time to get up and go back to see what it was. sure enough--happened again, and the second time long enough for me to see where the sound was coming from as well as see the red LED "alarm" light. scared me good, but again, shut itself off. now that we are boondocked in the middle of the nevada desert (nothing for 100 miles in either direction); no reoccurrence, and still can't figure out what could have triggered it as we could smell no odor of gas (so didn't shut off the gas tank valve). pulled over; checked the tank, smelled everything--couldn't smell any errant LP. we were traveling at the time; vents on, window open. what in the world?? only thing that happened prior to the alarm (hour or so) is that DH hit the chuck hole from hades hard enough to throw open the closet door and break the mirror--it was HARD--could that possibly have screwed up the LP system? looking for a possible explanation....any (hopefully NOT a gas leak)

2nd question: we've tried in vain to use our DISH receiver on this trip. we have an older king dome (and it worked at home). we switched to DISH so we could have satellite wherever we went--nothing, nada, zip, zero zilch. we were told we'd have to dial in manually--great. one little sweety told us we couldn't have a dish work in an RV that is on the road. so the question is: can you only use it if you are docked for a sufficient period of time that you can set the dome searching ad nauseum, or is it supposed to work when you stop and cue in the local zip?

I've read posts here about peoples dogs uh... um.. well, lets just say their dogs were able to set off the sensors. I also had a propane sensor that would go off if I used 409 celanser arround it.

Had our go off in the mornings a few weeks ago. 3 days in a row while parked at home. Finally pulled power from the alarm. Let is set overnight. Turned it back on. Has not gave an alarm since. We have used MH 3 different times since the alarm.

I'm having a similar problem with the Satellite, only we have DirectTV instead of Dish. The dome dish we have, came with the RV, and being 8 years old, it wasn't possible to tie it into a new receiver. The DirectTV guy who came to set us up couldn't do anything for us...and sent me to a local marine electronics guy, who deals with these KLH systems all the time. He found that my reciever was no good, and I'd have to get a new (old one) via a place on-line. Once I got that, he had to reprogram things, and it worked great (auto tracking as I drove)...for a while.

Went camping 2 weeks ago...no satellite! I'm gonna give the guy one more attempt at getting it right, and then we'll probably give Direct TV a call...tell them we want either a new system, with a dish I can put on a tripod, or cancel our order. Heck, the wife gets TV on her phone??

Personally, I hope we get the thing fixed. It was nice to be able to watch the Weather Channel while driving down the road! Only kidding!

All I can suggest is to get a tech to look at your system. It might be the best $75/hour you ever spent.

exactly--i'd love to cancel it; seems a little problem at home, too, with reception--except for that pesky 2 yr contract. we've called DISH twice (the gal in india spoke english but had no clue about tv's in rv's) and DH has done the online chat, neither of which proved helpful. they all wash their hands of the rv--not their problem.

in the meantime, i've had no reoccurrence of the LP alarm, but did have some major nightmares last night in the nevada desert. these rv's work so mysteriously--heaven knows what set it off--but it's not a sound i want to hear again. can it be possible that either the CO or smoke detector is tied into that alarm? can a dead/dying battery in the CO detector set off an LP alarm?

A low battery can make the CO, Propane or smoke alarm go off.

Propane alarms are sensitive by design and can be falsely triggered by who-knows-what. If it happens rarely chalk it up to the nature of the beast. When it becomes too much of a nucience replace it. Meanwhile try vacuuming or blowing compressed air into the grill opening.

Many people use Kingdome dishes to receive Dish Network so your's should work. It is not a Dish problem. You need to have a qualified tech take a look at it.

You may want to replace the detector now. My LP detector alarm started going off all the time. Talked to the detector manufacturer and was told that the average life is around 5 years- since mine was 9 years old, I replaced it and have not had a problem.

Two facts that caught my eye was erratic electrical gauge and potholes, put that together with Utah and I hate to say it - but it must be-" UFO activity ", you weren't scanning the skys when this happened-sure blame it on a battery or gauge "shelf life" or dog farts-----I know what really happened!
