Hi guys here's a question for all you tech heads. I have an 05 2500 4x4 8.1 sub with the 3.73 rear end. I test drove the Forest River T29FBSP to a local scale and these are the numbers I got. On the rear wheels of the Sub I got 5300lbs with three adults and two children 12 and 8 with the trailer hooked up. Then I got a second reading for the trailer axles of 7940. Still confuesd I went to another scale and had the Sub weighed with just two adults and the same children, the weight was steer axle at 3620 and the drive axle at 3460 for a total of 7080. My goal is to try to get the actuale dry weight of the trailer. Instead I got more confused with all these numbers. The brouchue weights don't help beacuse they don't add up. Hitch weight= 1092, Dry Weight=8676, GVWR =13,500,Net Cargo = 4182. I know the gcwr of the Sub is 8800 and the CGVWR is 19000. I understand this is a large trailer so I am tring to do all my homework and see if this trailer is do able. I know this is wordy but if you can help or if you need more info let me know. Thanks in advance.

Usually you get three wts. on typical truck scales when hooked up with a trailer. Front and real TV axle wts. and combined TT axle wts. You didn't say if you were using any WDH and w/o the steer axle wt. with the trailer hooked up it's sort of hard to give you a real good answer. However, assuming you weren't using any WDH the 5300 on the drive axle with the TT hooked up and 3460 with just the TV means the TT tongue wt. is around 1840lbs minus up to what the one less adult weighs when you only had two vs. three adults in the TV. Also, that would put what I assume was a unloaded trailer dry wt. of around 9780 (1840 + 7940).
I was fixing to say that 1840 potential tongue wt. is really high, but now I looked up the trailer you weighed and it's a toy hauler which unloaded normally can have a very high unloaded tongue wt. In any event you will need to pay close attention to properly match your actual tongue wt. to what your receiver rating is and have the proper WDH bar ratings and not exceed your TV RAWR. I'm thinking you might be into the Reese Titan V receiver area with a WDH system in the 1500 to 1700 tongue wt. area.
While this is just a guess but with this trailer and your 3.73 rear when loaded and ready to go you will be very close if not over either your GCWR or TV GVWR leaving you with a less than enjoyable towing experience. Also, I wonder if that 19,000 GCWR you quoted is for the 3.73 or 4.10 rear axle wt. ratio?
I agree with Larry, the numbers aren't exactly apples-to-apples, since some of the loaded weight gets transferred to the front axle with a WD hitch, but in this case I think we can get close enough.
The Tow rating on the 8.1/3.73 combo is 10,500, and the GCWR is 17,000 lbs, GVWR on the burb is 8,600 lbs.
Looked at the brochure, and that's a nice trailer for sure, BUT it will likely be 12,000 lbs when loaded with gear, motorized toys and water, etc. I would say too heavy for your burb, you should be thinking dielel truck to pull this weight.
Thanks for the info. guys you are all correct, it is a monster of a trailer and very nice. This is why I'm trying to figure if I can tow it with out to much white knuckle syndrome.
You are missing one weight to come close to what the approximate TT Basic weight is.
This would be the front axle weight when the TT was hooked up. This would depend on the weight distributing hitch set up.
"As a guess with out the real front axle weight and a reasonable hitch set up"
