Okay fellas...here's the situation. Atwood 6-gallon gas/electric water heater. I want to install one of the "by pass" kits I read about. How hard is it to put one in-understanding that I am a clumsy and sorta inept fella with big fat (monstrously powerful) hands! Am I going to have to hire one of those $100 an hour guys to do this?

it all depends on the ease of access to the piping where it needs to be installed.

I agree with Bumpy. If you can get to the pipes at the back of the water heater then it's not a big deal. I've done a couple of 'em.
Plastic pipe or copper, compression fittings would get my vote.

Installed one in my RV if you can get to the lines it no problem RV dealers sell kits complete for installing

Fully agree.. Some times it's easy, Some time's it is a PITA of the first water There are two bypass kits Single lever and 3-valve

The 3-valve you cut the pipes (hot and cold) install a valve and a "T" so that you have both lines like

Tank--Valve--T--Rest of house

Then you put the 3rd valve so it connects the two "T" fittings forming a letter "H" (On it's side)

The single valve system you cut both pipes.. Put a "T" in one and a check vavle (The hot poipe) so it's

Tank-check-T-Rest of house

And in the other you put the 3-way valve The T-fitting is then plumbed to the other port on the valve

Where my heater is located.. I would not wish to do this

However that said.. I don't have to. it's already has one
