DH, myself and 3 little girls just moved out to Utah two months ago. The kids have a fall break coming up and we want to go camping, but need some recommendations. We are about an hour north of Salt Lake and want to see Bryce Canyon and Zions NP. We will be able to stay 4 nights. Can someone recommend a nice campground that allows pets? Thanks!

Edited to add: I never thought about the weather and road conditions this time of year. We hope to go next week...should we postpone til next summer?

You could look at rvparkreviews.com, but the one I would suggest is Zion River RV Park in Virgin, UT. Ruby's Inn is nice in Bryce Canyon.

Those are the same two I would recommend ! Make sure you take the family to the Cowboy Buffet at Ruby's Inn.

The above mentioned campgrounds are both full HU and although there are forest service campgrounds at both locations it is getting cold this weekend and you will need the HU for heat and unhook the water hose at night as it will be well below frezzing here Minden NV. at night. Have fun

We made trip to SW in May and stayed in Cedar City, UT. at the Country Aire RV Park. Full service, nice park with all the conveniences of being near a small city. Easy day trips to both parks plus another smaller park a few miles south of Cedar City right off I-15. Can't remember the name of the park, but technically part of Zion and well worth it to see. One issue to consider, the pass from I-15 over to Bryce is high (9000+) and could be an issue this late in year. In fact, Bryce Canyon road the main sight seeing route is a ridge top that is 7-8000 ft. Weather could be an issue, but maybe others more familiar with condition this time of year can advise.

DH and I will be staying in an RV park in Hurricane, Utah. It is called Cottam's Willowind RV Park and they allow pets. We are planning to take ourtwo terrors (aka terriers) with us. It is a longer drive to Bryce, but many of the RV parks will be closed (or in the midst of closing) by the time we are planning to travel in November.

Check www.rvparkreviews.com for reviews of campgrounds. The one that we are planning to stay at had good reviews and they were very nice when I talked to them on the phone. Also, be sure to check when they close. Some of them were closing around October 15th and Ruby's was around October 31st.

Welcome to Utah. Where do you live, we live about 30-45 minutes North of Salt Lake City. You must have Oct. 16-17 off for UEA. Last year we went to Bryce Canyon for UEA and stayed at Ruby's Inn. It was very nice but just a reminder it does get rather cold this time of year. I preferred it because there was hardly anyone else there. If you go to Zion NP then Zion's River RV Park is very nice also. Another place that is fairly close and worth seeing is Moab. Arches NP is beautiful this time of year and a little warmer than Bryce would be. We are heading to Moab at the end of the month with isn't too bad of a drive from SLC area. Mike.

Hi! Thanks for the welcome. We are in Tremonton and loving it so far. What campground are you staying at in Moab? There are so many with mixed reviews...a recommendation would be great. We're still adjusting to the temp changes compared to PA, so we just figured it would be warmer the further south we went! Didn't realize Moab would be warmer than Bryce Canyon. Thanks for the tip!

We have stayed at Moab Valley RV Park and Portal RV Park in Moab. Moab Valley RV usually closes around the middle of October so we will be staying at Portal when we go at the end of the month. As far as temperatures, Bryce is quite a bit higher in elevation than Moab or even Zion NP for that matter. There is a pretty good temperature difference between Moab and Bryce this time of year. Last year over Halloween in Moab it was about mid 40's at night and mid 60's during the day and two weeks earlier at Bryce it was at or just below freezing at night and around upper 40's- low 50's during the day. Mike.
