I saw on CW website a hand pump kit that pumps RV antifreeze into the water system through the city water hookup. Anyone winterize through this route instead of using the water pump? Wondered if it's any easier or harder this way on a class B?

Would this get antifreeze into the water pump?

That's a good question...I don't know if the antifreeze gets into the water pump or not! Anyone use this method and how is it done?

I would think with that method, you would just switch on the tank fill valve and put some in the tanks, and then shut off the city input and circulate the anti-freeze out of the tanks with the pump.

with the way I'm doing it via the water pump, I can't imagine going any other way. the winterizing valve is just the best way to go, it covers every thing it takes me longer to open the jug then it takes to pump the pink stuff through the entire TT system.

yep, I would never want to dump the antifreeze into my fresh water tank, it's a waste. But I guess it would be easier to just hook it up to the city water fill to the distribution system than to install a pickup at the pump. but as said, be sure the pump and associated plumbing is drained.

I think the best way to winterize is thru the fresh water tank, make sure the tank is empty and dump in 2 or 3 gallons of rv antifreeze and pump thru the system using your 12 volt pump, it is so easy and it works, just make sure you by pass the hot water heater ( make sure you have drained the heater)been doing this for the past 11 years with no problem also on the city water inlet check valve make sure you get solution out thru the check valve by pushing up on the check valve.

Am I the only one that only puts antifreeze in the drain p traps? I don't like the taste of the pink stuff in my fresh water system. I drain the fresh water tank, then use a $2 fitting from Walmart (it screws into the fresh water connection and use a tire air chuck) and 40 psi air to blow out all the fresh water lines. By systematically opening each water valve and purging the water out, one at a time.
Then I drain the holding tanks, then pour the pink stuff enough to fill the p trap and put some in the holding tanks. I have 2 p traps, sink & shower, I use maybe 1/2 gallon.

That sounds like a good way to do maybe I will try that next time. My p traps get the pink stuff when I pump thru the system . I guess it is a waste the way i do it never thought about doing it your way.We never drink water from the fresh water tank

if you are just going to blow out your lines, be very sure that every low point etc. gets thoroughly blown out. I mean one gallon of AF is $5.00 at wal mart and might just save you lots of money. and draining thru the faucets will just end up in the Ptraps anyway so it is a benefit there.
