I have a Rockwood 8298. Overall lenght is 31 feet but the actual length of the living area is more like 27 feet. I hear a lot of people referring to length and am not sure if it is overall length or living area?

There ARE no rules for how anyone refers to their trailers length. I use the ACTUAL length, rounded to the nearest foot when I say "I have a 34 foot trailer" (it's actually 33'10"). You should refer to yours any way you LIKE but DON'T confuse model numbers with trailer size. They sometimes are close and other times have no bearing what so ever. My trailer is an 8314 which has NO bearing on it's length and my truck is an F-150 and it's not 150 ANYTHING long.

I agree with skipnchar, you cannot go by the model numbers. My 28DD has a 25' box with a total length of 29'. If anybody asks me I say 29', just cause there is 29' of trailer behind my Expedition while towing, and when parked there is 4' of a-frame to run into.

One thing to remember is to use the overall length when making campground reservation, as that is what they have set up the sites for!

Skipnchar is correct. We refer to ours as a 34' TT when we book a site. The other confusing part is the letters that follow or preceed the numbers. Our model 831FKBSS we think means Front Kitchen Bed Super Slide. But that is anyones guess as to what they meant to say. I know when we looked at different models at RV shows we could tell by the model number even before we looked inside what the layout was going to be. FK Front Kitchen or BH Bunk House, which we were not interested in looking at any of them.

Ditto with the other posters. I've got a R-Vision Trailsport TS27QBSS. 27 feet of living space but overall length of 31 feet. So I always say 31 since that's what I tow and also when making reservations for a campground.

Ditto on the above plus you need to know your tow vehicle length.
Sometimes the over all site length becomes a issue.

Mine is 55 feet from TV front bumper to TT bumper and fixing to get longer once I get my generator rack finished.

Personally, I like the use the entire length of the TT, not just the living area.
