Has anyone experienced engine damage because of a Napa filter on their Cummins.

I have a 2002 Dodge diesel dually that I use commerically.I drive 3500-4000mi per week.I change the oil weekly using Fram filters(half the price of NAPA).The truck now has 595,000 miles and great oil pressure.

Cummins could have selected a WIX or a Baldwin or a ( no name on the can) filter...but NOOO they selected a particular brand and model ( varys with engine models) to install. And if it was good enough for THEM to chose it in the very beginning..its good enough for ME to continue to use!"


Ahh, Sully, I believe the only reason thaat Cummins uses Fleet Guard, is because they own them. The same reason that GM uses Delco, they own them, and Ford......Motorcraft, oh, never mind, I hope you get the picture. Robbie

I use Napa on my Cat engine. Napa sells a good filter.

All Im POSITIVE of is this! I know what Im "responsible for".. $$$wise.. to be maintained. No one...repeat NO ONE can prove that a Fram model "X"..or a WIX model "Y"..oil filter will do a better job on my ISC than the Fleetguard filter that came on it!

Buying a NAPA Gold filter..or having NAPA ( here at least) Order me in a WIX filter of the proper number to fit...is MUCH MORE $$$ than the Fleetgrard filters I buy online.

NO ONE has greater "convienence" that I do..walking to the front door of my house...when the UPS man pulls up ( I DO walk out on the porch to get the pkg as compared to having him come inside... )

A person doesnt buy oil filters per a SPEC...they are bought by cross referencing a PART NUMBER. If Cummins didnt release the oil filter number..and simply sold oil filters "for an ISC" ( period) 99.9% of people that come up with different filters wouldnt stand a chance. Its not like motor oil...which IS purchased to comply to a certain set of "specs"...hence many brands perform perfectly

Anyone else can run whatever oil filter ( in this case) that they want..dont matter to me because Im not paying for them..not am I responsible for the engine they are using them on. But when the comments that a different brand model "Z" is "better"..I say prove it! And the convienence of buying thingy? It dont hold a candle either and thusly..my question always is....WHY?

You put a Banks kit on, but you're reluctant to use a Napa or Wix filter. What's that about? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Fleetguard filters and use them quite often. However, on occasion when I pull into a service center to have the oil changed and they use Napa, Wix or Baldwin filters, I have no problem with it.

If any filter causes an engine failure, even if the engine is out of warranty, the filter company is liable for the engine repair. Even if it's a Fleetguard filter.

Banks works with the manufacturers from design forward, Most oil/filter/brakes/maint parts manufacturers just need to meet an OEM spec on a drawing

Lots of people forget that any Napa oil filter is warrant by the Magnuson Moss Act.
