Before you give someone a piece of your mind, be sure you can do with what you will have left.

Yes, with the same result everytime. Not just adaware. Trying to install anything gives the same result if the Windows Installer is part of the equation. Have downloaded new files, loaded, have copied installer files fron another desktop that I know to be working fine, just no success. I am about to give up, but that is usually not my nature.

Ranger Dave, I do not have the option of "services" in the control panel. Where might that be?
You can access it from MSCONFIG. Click here for the Microsoft KnowledgeBase How-to on this problem.

Well, after going through the entire process again to no avail, I remembered an old friend who has been an IT guy since the days of DOS and gave him a call. He turned me on to a free download program that fixed the problem, and a bunch more that I did not even know existed. Problem finally solved.

robsouth, how about sharing this free download? I spent over two weeks jumping through hoops with no success and finally ended up restoring back to a point when I first got my desktop. Still putting stuff back on and trying to remember what I had. Backup was no good since it had problem also. I thought it happened about the time SP2 came out.

I had a problem with Windows Installer a while back and used the Microsoft Knowledge Base to find the solution. I believe I had an error message that helped lead to the solution. I simple download and I was back in business. I suggest trying this.

Free download is Advanced Windows Care. Google it. Pretty neat.
