Don’t worry everyone. While driving through Colorado I found Carol hitchhiking at a rest area near Vail. Seems a kindly truck driver offered her a lift out of Utah. We are hitched-up once more and on the road again.
“That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.” So Dan, you can call off the APB.
Next stop Lawrence, Kansas to see Comanche.

For those of us planning on a trip out west in 2010, here’s what I’ve figured so far. These are estimates and are based on the itinerary Dan and I had discussed earlier. All things are open to change.
Ohio to Jackson, Wy (south end of Yellowstone NP); 1850 miles, 35 hours of driving.
Yellowstone NP to Devils Tower NP; 550 miles, 8 hours driving time.
Devils Tower NP to Custer, S. Dakota; 110 miles, 2 ½ hours.
Custer, SD to Ohio; 1400 miles, 24 hours driving time.
Estimated mileage, rounded up; 4000 miles.
Estimated driving time, rounded up; 70 hours (about 11 days of driving)
Estimated fuel costs, at $3.50/gal, at 6.5 MPG, rounded up; 630 gals/ $2200
If we were to cut off the Yellowstone NP part of the trip we would save about 1000 miles and some 18 to 20 hours of driving time. That's almost 3 days of driving.
This is very early in the planning stages so all things are open to debate.
Steve, you are on to something...for those thinking about Yellowstone, that is quite a drive from the Black Hills, roughly 9 hours (as was stated) but as others have indicated...they are that close, the theory of 2 birds one stone!
I provided Dan and Roger/Cindy et al. with the suggestion of staying at a Campground right across from Mount Rushmore, Rafter J Bar Ranch. It is conveniently located to everything, has very nice accomodations and is somewhat tourist friendly!
If we can iron out who is going maybe we can figure out when we collectively will be in the hills and can plan the side trips around that....not sure how easy it is to caravan out as I know long days are a normal when I travel!

Hi all. We have drove 5,937 miles and we are still in Kansas. What an adventure. We have passed so much to see and if only we could see it all. Only doing the highlights this trip. Hope all get the chance. If your there, do what you can.
I finally got some good news!!!!!!I`M RETURNING TO WORK!!!!I`m still on restricted duty for life. No more than 15 lbs.So my employer will not take me back.14 YEARS DOWN THE DRAIN.So I had to go out searching for a new job.I applied on Tuesday and got a call to start when I get back from New Jersey after I get to spend some much needed time with my sister and brother after losing our mom. It`s not full- time, which is good for now after being off work for 17 months, 3weeks and 6 days, it will work for me right now. It`s also going to be a job that I did when I worked for Campbell Soup company back in New Jersey. I will be helping a girl with doing Q.C. work. I loved doing that work. So thank you Jesus for hearing my prayers and thank you Bob for loving me and helping me see I need to think of my health and not money when came to a job. This is a lesson that was hard to swallow. I`m now going to have a good night sleep for the first time in almost 18 months.

Glad to hear your prayers were answered. Keep in your head that if you don't have good health you can't enjoy life's blessings.
