I am thinking of getting Satellite Internet. I want to be able to use it at home and on the road. I have seen at lot of Hughes net, but have read they (Hughes net)are not to receptive to mobile use. Any input would be helpful.

Just get an air card from your cell phone provider and make your life simple.

I love my aircard! I get my service through nTelos but many cell providers are also in this business. I also have reasonable Internet speeds connecting to my Palm Treo 755p (service through Sprint) via Bluetooth. There are so many ways to get on the Internet these days....

Hughes does not directly support mobile use, but dealer/VARs do. Either automatic roof mount dishes (Datastorm) or tripod. We've had a Datastorm for over 5 years and love it.

If you have the money go with the roof mounted, automatic unit. Rain fade is rare and usually only occurs when really thick cloud layers are overhead.

Air cards are great except when you're out of range. Go to Datastormusers DOT com and they have all the Datastorm help you need in making a decision.

I had Hughes internet but when the modem didn't work(new) they wouldn't back the warranty because I set it up myself. I canceled the same day and threw it all in the dumpster and bought Verizon. I had been a customer since it was direcway.

Air card all the way. Use it at home and on the road. Shop for best coverage in the parts of the country you travel.

There are basically two companies providing "user grade" 2-way sat internet, and a couple more who provide "Pro grade" (Read that way more expensive)

Hughes and Starband are the two

More information at http://www.datastormusers.com/ I truly suggest you visit that web site before you buy

You can also find both dealers and installers there for both systems. as well as some of the professional ones like I-Direct
