Hello Othertonka....

Oh, I have been watching. Thing is, my mum flew off the handle about it before she heard the entire deal;-) That's what mums do, out of concern I suppose. It is not being bought sight unseen we have arranged a friend to look it over, go though it, test it, and drive it down to us in Florida (he will be staying in it with his family for a month with us down south). This will be in January, NOT April. That would be silly. We have all the information pertaining to bringing a vehicle across the boarder. A pain but doable nonetheless. A lot of things need to be worked out beforehand of course. Bryan MAY even fly up beforehand to have a good look. Not sure yet.

Everyone can simmer down, we're not 'stupid kids'. Risky sometimes yes. Learning from mistakes are a part of life and I have a feeling many of you have had many years of experience doing this. It's our turn. Thank you for your concern. If anyone wants updates, they can be found at our site listed below (our travel blog of over two years, we fulltime on a 5th wheel). I think everyone should tell poor mum to calm down a bit. Like one poster said, we're adults now. Hehe!

At the very least have them check Canadian Import Requirements to see if the RV in question can be imported at all.

Thanks for replying, it is nice to get both sides of the story. If most of the other posters read this I am sure the answers might be different. I wish you well in your endevor.

Starspun, I, too, hope that everything goes well for you. I'm the one that said that you are adults and you will have to live with your decisions.

If you have been living in a trailer full time for two years, you certainly have experience.

Keep us posted on how everything turns out!

Also, what exactly are you buying???

It is not that easy a task. The unit needs to be paid in full and no leans on it.

Not true, I have imported a MH and it was a relatively easy process. You just have to follow the guidelines to the 'T'.

As another posted, there's no guarantee that the dealer will be in business next week in the current economy. Or that any existing lien on this MH will get paid off once you've given them any money.

There are lot's of "deals" out there right now (and more to come). Don't advance any money until the dealer can give you a signed off title without liens. Go with him to the bank or DMV if necessary. He will try and talk you out of this, of course, but be prepared to walk. He'll change his mind quickly as there aren't many MH buyers today---especially older units. There are other recent posts about this.

Oh yes. Although I don't know your or your Mom's age, I do know that in the the ten years that it took my sons to get from 20 to 30, I have gained much wisdom. They now call me seeking advice from time to time!!

For those who seem to think I did not post all info.

Daughter called, said they were going to send cheque to dealer and pick up unit in April on their way back. She was all excited. Asked us what we thought.

DH and I were shocked and reacted as I am sure any parent would. It simply was not like them to rush into things! We thought that perhaps the dealer was a very good salesman.

So...I decided to ask advice from the members here and also to see if anyone here had heard of this dealer.

While advice was being posted here, they decided to have friends pick up unit and drive it down south for them. They also decided that perhaps SIL should fly up and look at it first.

Of course...this had nothing to do with our reaction...all their idea.
We were obviously relieved at the change of direction.
