We are currently RVing in Arizona and pull into RV parks once in a while to get internet and watch a little TV. Question is - is there a satellite system that anyone is aware of that will provide TV and internet programming at the same time?? We are much more interested in having internet access than TV.

The answer to your question is... YES. This is what I have. With this you can have internet ANYPLACE you can see the southern sky. With an (bow) you can get TV.

Also, Many use a Hughes net dish on a tripod and get the same results.

Yes we use the Hughesnet Internet Anywhere and receive our television and internet through the same dish. Works great well 'anywhere'. It is what I am using right now.

Thank you - could either or both of you tell us how it was installed and what the cost was as well as the monthly payments? We have a 25 ft Bigfoot TT and would like to have it either installed on the roof or on a tripod.

When did Hughes start doing TV??? We had Hughes and asked about receiving TV on the same dish and they said it couldn't be done....it's not the dish but that the dish has to aim toward two different satellites ...one for tv and one for internet.....would have been nice to have only one dish to haul around!!!!

The previous posts are a bit misleading. There is no satellite system that will provide both TV and Internet on the same dish "out of the box". In some circumstances you can do it by attaching a auxillary device called a Bird On A Wire (BOW) to a HughesNet or DataStorm dish but the ability to do that depends on which HughesNet satellite you are assigned to. HughesNet satellite systems range in price from about $1,500 for a manual tripod-mounted system to around $5,000 for a fully automatic roof-mounted DataStorm system. Monthly charges are $60 to $100.

We recently dumped our HughesNet dish in favor of a Verizon Air Card. It works great in most places we have been and is a lot easier to use.

Give Don Marr a call at Oregon RV Satellite and he will set you up with what you want Internet and TV for around $3500. He installed our system, does a good job and we do get both. Air cards are only good if you get a signal and there are still many areas of the US, 50% or more of Canada and 99% of Mexico where there is no signal. With a datastorm system, you get a signal in all those places.

The Texan is correct - if you need coverage in Canada or Mexico then satellite Internet is the way to go. OTOH we have traveled much of the western US including some pretty remote areas in Arizona and New Mexico and have not found anyplace where the Air Card did not work. You can keep the $3500 in your pocket and try it for 30 days with return privilege if you are interested.

If you want to use an air card, then do not travel the state of Idaho(50% non-coverage), Wyoming(25%+), Oregon(25%), Nevada(25%+), even Florida(10%) and others that we know for a fact, do not have coverage. Air cards are the cats meow, as long as you stay close to civilization, but once you leave the main roads, it becomes a hit and miss option. Because we like to travel the backroads, we don't like the current odds of finding service 100% of the time, so we put the odds in our favor with a satellite system that does everything with one dish.
