Not really a 'Mexico' post but close.
We are spending the night in Nogales tomorrow night at 'Club Walmart' before crossing the border early Sunday morning. Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent restaurant there? Preferably not Mexican food as that will be the fare for the next 3 1/2 months.

That depends on Your Taste. There is a well rated Sushi place there called Samurai Teppan & Sushi Restaurant. Apart from that the majority of places that I have noted are Mexican or the usual Gag and Puke Burger joints!

I'm not if the restaurant is still there- but La Caverna ( the cave I think) was excellent.

Nogales ( either side of the border) is a city with no redeeming qualities. Make a list of all the bad things about Mexico and that is what you will find in Nogales. Personally I would not even stay on the Wal mart lot overnight!

As you turned off of Mariposa on to Mastick going to Walmart, Mr C's is up on the hill to your right. Take the first right turn or if coming from Walmart the Left just before the signal at Mariposa. Drive up the hill and Mr C's is on the Right overlooking Mariposa. You can barely see it as you come down Mariposa after you turnoff the Freeway and pass Kentucky Fried Chicken. Look up on the hill on the right. Old time Greek & Italian with a hint of spice. Very good but not cheap. You could walk there from Walmart, about 5 blocks total distance.

Second place. Leaving Walmart parking lot turn right down to Grand. Make a right on to Grand. Take Grand until you go under a overpass. Watch on your left for Zula's. Continental & Greek. Prince Phillip once ate there. Good not as good as Mr C's but more affordable. Has a buffet sometime.

Nogales had a Greek community. They were the original handlers of the Produce coming into USA.

Fodors recommends Zula's located 982 North Grand Avenue.

The cave is long gone and was on the Mexico side of the border.

The Sushi Place is downtown on a back street just before the border. Have heard it is good.

A lot of people stay at Walmart, but you could also stay in Tubac. No one will make you leave and lots of good food. Park on the dirt near Tubac Inn in the old section and eat at the Tubac Inn. Used to be called Tubac Jack's, not really a Inn. Very good food and affordable.

Thanks for the responses. We are meeting others there so it looks like it will be Walmart. We have stayed there a couple of times in the past with no problems. They do have security that patrols the lot all night as far as I am aware.

That is the understatement of the year. How many decades has it been since it burned?

The Cave burned in 1983. Some including Frommer's call La Roca the cave but La Roca is not. La Roca is overpriced, easily $40/person. Best in Nogales, Son. Mx. is El Marcos near Lay, Ford & Walmart in South Nogales. Park on the USA side, walk across & take a cab.
