I have twin Honda EU2000i generators (that I love), but I'm always looking for a "better mousetrap".

I just got an email ad from RVToyoutlet.com . They have a Magna SF2700 (that I had never heard of) for $877 (which is very close to what I paid for each one of my Honda's).

The 2600 watt rated "run" is slightly lower than the Honda EU3000i, but the 4000 watt "boost" feature means it should start an AC unit easier than a Honda 3000.

The "pros" to these generators, IMHO, are:
inverter style (like Honda / Yamaha).
electric and recoil start.
remote start / stop.
wheels and a pull handle.
30 amp RV outlet (Honda now offers a 30 amp outlet, but you need an adaptor for an RV plug).
very similar noise ratings to Honda / Yamaha (54 db idle / 59 db load).
2 second 4000 watt boost feature for starting big loads.
2700 watt max vs. 2000 watt max for Honda 2000, 3000 for Honda and Yamaha 3000, 2400 for Yamaha 2400.
2600 watt run vs. 1600 watt for Honda 2000, 2800 for Honda and Yamaha 3000, 2000 for Yamaha 2400, .
76 lbs. vs. 47 for the Honda 2000, 134 lbs. the 3000, 70 lbs for Yamaha 2400, 152 lbs for the Yamaha 3000.

The "cons", again IMHO, are:
small fuel tank (like the Honda 2000)
it's not a Honda or Yamaha, so it won't have the nationwide parts and service network they have.
it's an unknown product.
it's probably made in China.

Does anyone have any experience with one of these generators or comments about them?

I'm thinking it might be a good thing to ask "Santa" for, if you don't have a generator!

I would also be interested in such a generator. We are looking for a generator for our TT that has the 15K BTU A/C. We won't be using the generator a lot, but being that we do a lot of traveling that consists of day long (or longer) pulls it would be nice to find a simple solution that wouldn't require a big 3500w or larger generator. Like everyone else we are trying to balance cheap, good, and light...haven't found all three yet. Any suggestions would be grea1tly appreciated.

Thanks.

If I was in the market for a gensets in this class it would be a close second to the Yahama 2400 inverter. But, looking at the remote start feature of the Magna, that migh be a decider. All these Chinese gensets coming to market seem to come out of just a few factories. Names are added by just a label. My old DuroPower had the name of JD on all parts. The only thing DuroPower I could fine was the removable labels. Now we see many gensets looking the same with the only difference being, a label. As to warranty. Paying by Credit Card might be it? If it will not perform on arrival, well, maybe it can just be returned and then contact the credit card company with a return receipt in hand. At least with my Champion some parts are stamped CPE but other parts may be? standard to the market. Champion does have a active CS department but can you return a genset? A service center most likely is a lawn mower shop, so go figure. But there again, the parts are available. All open frames are LOUD, that is a standard. I bet the company store, the 'Magna' is more silent. Wouldn't have to be embarrassed when I start the little jewel close to other fine folks.

This one does not have a electric start inveter generator but for around $500 with shipping, I might give it a try if I was in the market, there is a dealer that sells the lower price inverter generators about 30 miles from me, which may be a better way to go, most sellers on ebay say the customer pays for return shipping.

the reviews above are not for the generator the OP talks about, but they are for Magna gens.

This new model WITH remote start, which is a $400 add on for other generators is a KILLER deal if it is reliable....I am watching as I would seriously consider it if experience shows it is not a piece of crap...

I'm wondering if rvtoyoutlet.com will have parts availabilty and will take care of warranty issues, since they are selling them?
