That was one of my requirements that I had left out in my last post.
I am only interested in finding a green stickered quad.
Where do you go riding and what time of the year? Here is a dirct link to find out if it even matters RED GREENmost of the good riding places accept RED from Sep 1 through May 31. For us it has never been a problem with red sticker stuff. In the summer we are usually at the track anyway with a few high altitue rides and have not had any issues ever with it. It all depends on where you go for example Kennedy Meadows is all year RED ok.
In my opinion the LT80 was the best kidz quad. They still race them. The only better one would be the Cobra ECX70 ECX70 this is a hot ATV, has an Auto option for the clutch and is fast. I personally love Cobra motors and are super easy to work on and have local support here in OC. Gold Coast Cobra.
Plus if you get an 02 or earlier LT80 it will be a green sticker. I belive the cut off is 2003 and newer would get RED. As for oil injection I wouldn't chance it. Get a block off kit and mix yourself if the oil stops injecting there goes the crank. It happened to me on the Blaster. I removed the oil injection from both the Blaster and the PW50. In all of our two strokes we run the following and it has worked for us for years: 40:1 Caster 927 with 50/50 mix of 110 race gas and 91. (You will get 101 different sugestions on this) It is better to be safe than sorry and I want to know at all times. Mixing fuel is no big deal. It is more work remembering to fill a res. with oil than mixing fuel. If you mix up 5 gal for your kid, he's good for the weekend anyway. Yes you may need to rejet when you do this, but you really need to rejet all the time when you change altitude, humtity and tepature.

The LT 80 is green sticky if you get an 2002 or older. It is a great choice, it has a throttle limiter and you can buy a remote engine kill for anything. Polaris 90 might be good too but I have no experience with them, they have 2 modes on the ignition, 1 limts to 15 mph and the other is full power, I don't remember if it also has a throttle limiter again 2002 and older is green sticker.
Another thought is a polaris trailboss 200, it is fully auto but might be too much right now though and not sure it there is a way to govern it down.
if that 200 frame is a good size you can always make it slower and you can get lower profile tires like some of the ITP ones I have seen on the Blasters to lower the quad down. Limiting the throtle should be easy to slow accelaration, loosen the cable, but just like the governer screws they will eventually build up speed. I personally never used the screws due to the fact the kids need the power to get out of trouble time to time, such as sand and hill climbs you need the power. Even on the PW50 I threw away the governer screw before my little one ever got on the bike.
Since your daughter has only ridden twice, the predictable power and the ability to train in 1st gear and to changing gears as she progresses is what the Honda 90 can provide.
The no shift automatics will not help her progress to a shifting bike later (250ex, 300ex, 400ex etc.......)
Plus a wider stance and a pysically larger overall size.
And they do hold their resale value!
When you ask the question " what is comparable to the Honda 90 " I think you already know what you want/need .

Very good point. Why the insistence on a green sticker? Most people think they need a green sticker because they do not understand what can and can't be done with a red sticker. With a red sticker, you can't ride in the desert when it is too hot to ride there anyways!
I have two red sticker quads and it has never been an issue.

I recently picked up a 2003 KFX80 (same as LT80) for my son and its a great little quad. I believe 2007 was the last year of the two stroke and that is what you should base your buying decision on. Don't worry about the red sticker.
Here's what I have done to ours and the thing rips pretty good in the dunes
- Shaved .030 off the head
- 13/26 gearing and chain (428 size)
- 18" glider paddles
- Front wheel spacers
- removed two rollers from clutch
- removed oil injection. 32:1 Torco GP-7 smokeless oil
If you go up to big bear cactus flats or Gorman with a red sticker you will have some crying kids, I will tell you this with experience. Its a main reason I only bought a 2002 LT80. Then I found how great this quad is and cant believe its not still made though I know why. If you only go to glamis fine, they dont have a sticker issue no matter what, but Ocotillo wells in May can get you in trouble I believe, though I have risked it and not had a problem. But anywhere nice in the summer has a sticker problem. JMHO

First , I want to say Thanks to all you guys for your GREAT input on this thread. I Really do appreciate it.
Second I think I may have confused this thread up a little bit, and I apoligize for that,..... My Bad.
So let me try to clear it up a bit.
When I first started this thread almost a year ago,
I was looking for a youth quad, that would best suit my Daughters needs and abilities. We DID end up getting a very clean, used, '06 TRX90 for her, and it is an Excellent choice for her. I could not be any happier with it if I tried. PERFECT quad for Her.
Now, we are a year later, and I am looking to find another youth quad for my Son.
Another TRX90 is a POSSIBLE choice for Him, BUT,... Knowing how He is, being a special needs kid, and the rate that he usually learns new things, I feel that He will get more pleasure/fun on a quad that does not require shifting gears. (maybe later on, that will be different).
It's just that the less things he has to learn at one time, the better. The objective here is to have him feel a sence of accomplishment and therefore self pride, as early as possible.
this all computes and equates, into a continued desire, in Him to want to Ride more, and more often.
The Sooner that he feels good about himself, and His own accomplishments, the better off the entire Family is, and therefore, the more enjoyable each camping trip will be.
Hence, the reason for my quest, and my preference towards a fully auto, CVT type gearbox.
trust me,... He's a LOOOONG ways away from being concerned about it being fast, or whether it will keep up with the rest of the machines, or other kids. He will not be doing any racing, hill climbing, topping off the whoops, or catching air, for quite a while.
as far as the Green vs. Red goes, I just want to be able to ride anytime we have the opportunity, without having to check whether we are legal or not. and yes, we sometimes go out in the desert when it's too darned hot for anyone with any sence, ...LOL!
(El Mirage is now pretty heavily patrolled, since they made it into a State Park)
So hopefully I've clarified what this thread started as,... and now what it had evolved to,... in reguards to first was for Daughter, and now is for Son.

My boy who is 9 rides a Polaris Predator 90. It's a 2stroke, and has a CVT with reverse. They do have a jumper on the CDI that limits top speed that's easy to remove. Good quad.
