Just purchased Good Sam CSP coverage. After reading the policy I have one major concern. They require you to maintain your coach for "severe service or extreme conditions." As near as I can tell my Freightliner maintenance schedule doesn't provide for extreme service, just general use. The Cummins engine does have such a service schedule. This will be difficult to follow and cost more money in the long run.

My concern is will CSP refuse a defective TV or washing machine claim because I neglected to change a required engine fuel filter, that has absolutely nothing to do with the claim?

I'm interested in hearing any experiences, good or bad regarding proof of maintenance.

I have had Good Sam CSP on four motor homes over the last 20 years and never have had a claim refused because of lack of documented maintenance. I have always followed the manufacturers recommendation, and keep copies of it. In your example, if they ask for documentation, it is on the part or parts that are to be repaired. In my case, they have never asked to see my documentation. I have had some repairs done that were not covered, because they were not specified in the contract. If you do a search on the forum, you will find that most people who buy Service Contracts, treat them as insurance policies for peace of mind.

Tom, I have had CSP for two plus years on my DP and would not be without it, i know some will disagree but so be it. To date they have covered eight thousand in repairs my cost about half to date, now i can say and i will knock on wood that i feel i have worked most of the bugs out due to the fact that this was a 2000 coach bought in 2006 with 7,500 miles on it, i feel the low milage reflected in some of the early on repairs i had to have done and by the way i was never asked for documentation but i have keep very good maintenience records since i have owned it but no records from the prior owner(my mistake). On one occasion i had to climb the flagpole for final reimbursement but hear is the Example---It was diagnosed and not overnight, good thing i wasn't on the road that i needed a Fuel Caps replacement(Six Thousand dollars)and CSP agreed but later was diagnosed that i needed a wiring harness update to make everthing communicate, CSP said nope thats electrical, i said wait a miniute thats part of the update, notice i said update not upgrade, they agreed to pay on customer satisfaction not necessity and there you have it.Keep good records, make sure you understand whats covered, communicate and whatever you do don't get MAD and you should have a good insurance policy. Good Luck 3708

I have CSP on my 2005 Jamboree, last year 2007 we were traveling in the Pismo Beach area of Ca. We were in a campground and discovered we had a propane leak. We went to an RV repair in town and they repaired the leak. CSP paid the bill no questions asked. As far as we are concerned the CSP coverage is worth every penny we paid for it.JMHO

Ihave had the GS coverage since my factory warranty ended last year.
Before I got it I talked to a local rv repair shop. the question put to him..What do you think of GS coverage.
He told me that he has repaired many motor homes that had the coverage and has never had one claim denied by GS.
I know a couple who had their sat auto system replaced at no cost to them.
I pay by the month and can cancel at any time.
I also have GS road side emergency coverage and have been very pleased with it.
Some say having an extended warranty policy is foolish and you should put that money in an account just in case something happens.
Great, but how many will not touch that money or how about this, you start your emergency account and two months into the savings you have a major problem, ie: refig gives out. well the few bucks you just put away will not cover the big ticket item repairs or replacement.
Not all rv'ers have the money on the "side" to make major repairs.
but again, this type of insurance, road side or warranty, is a personal choice.
For me and mine, I feel comfortable having it.

They will NOT deny a COACH related claim based on the Chassis Service schedule. BUT, IF they send an adjuster out to verify the COACH claim, the adjuster will document the mileage and existing Chassis service issues for their records and if down the line you do have a chassis problem, they will use those records to help determine if you did not maintain the chassis on schedule. Fot instance, you let the Transmission or Oil level go below the fill line--HE DOCUMENTS that. That can prove later that you did not maintain adequate fluid levels. BTW, we sell GS certified units and they require that ALL regular chassis maintenance items be done BEFORE it is for sale as a GS certified used RV (including inspection of the brake systems). They know that a regularly maintained chassis will have minimal problems. Doug

GS is not a non-profit enterprise. They are a for profit business. Their objective is to pay out less than they take in. I am willing to accept my own responsibility for the expense. With 40+ years in the insurance business I have always told my clients to never pay for insurance on something you could cover yourself.

I have GS CSP on my current coach. I did not have it on my previous one, and paid out over 6 grand for engine repairs. For $750 ($500 deductible)a year, I like having the peace of mind I'm not going to pay out more than $500 for a major repair. I do most of the maintenance myself and keep all receipts and records of maintenance according to maintenance recommendations of the chassis.

That's why I run away from Good Sam's programs.  There are better deals out there. Next year look around
