well I just seen on TV news that the federal commission is getting ready to add a 50% tax per gallon to our gasoline.
A highway commission recommended a 50 CENTS per gallon tax increase to pay for roads and highway maintenance; NOT 50% as you stated.

The DOE has started purchasing oil for the Strategic Petroleum Reserves. See this article. That will raise prices because there will be less oil on the market. At least that is the story.

Lets see $12 a barrel increase and 55 gal. to the barrel doesn't that make it 21.2 cents a gallon raw increase. So why all the drama here.

There's 42 gallons in a barrel of crude oil...

The simple reason gas price continue to go up is easy....

Cuz we're willing to pay it....

Government said demand was down so they have to raise prices accordingly. Is this a great country or what?

We bought Diesel on the toll road in Kansas for ($1.98) almost giving it away. A far cry from Sep $4.00. Love it but won't hedge like Flying J did. Just north of San Antonio Headed for RGV ariving at the Tip of Texas for the fifth year can't wait to see old friends.

Bought diesel in Wichita Falls Tx for 1.99 and my son told me diesel in Oklahoma was 1.99 but...heard on morning news that government says its losing money for fixing roads and bridges with gas and diesel being low. What about when it was 5 dollars a gallon?

Here's NC historical adverage for the past few days:

Date Price Truck Stops Polled
12/25/2008 2.4090 38
12/26/2008 2.4134 70
12/27/2008 2.4061 64
12/28/2008 2.4156 65
12/29/2008 2.4011 89
12/30/2008 2.4019 92
12/31/2008 2.4017 92
1/1/2009 2.3990 56

I didn't see any significant data on ANY STATES to indicate a rise in price overall. Hope this continues to be the trend.
