LED is the way to go. 12V is readily available. I wanted a night light in the bathroom so when I got up during the night to go I would not have to turn on the regular bright light. I added another switch to the bathroom light switch and added a red LED light that was suppose to be a trailer clearence light. I choose red from my military days in our equipment vans for night operations. Works great for me.

well if you always stay at campgrounds with 120v like I do I just put a small photocell operated tiny nightlight in my bath. At home I have one and replaced the standard 7 watt?? christmas tree bulb with a 4 watter??. they make lots of small ones with LEDs also.

That would work but in my case there is no outlet in the bathroom like the OP said. Besides, I can still use it when on 12V and with the switch I can turn it on and off as needed to save the battery. I mounted mine under the cabinet over the toilet that way it is out of sight and will not shine directly in your eyes.

out of curiosity, do they make a lot of 5ers without a 120 outlet in the bath? doesn't anybody who owns a 5er shave with an electric razor? If I didn't have an outlet in the bath, I think that would be my first project, installing one, nightlight or not.

I guess that depends on how you define bathroom. I both of my fivers and one TT the toilet was in a room by itself. The sink and mirror are part of the bedroom. There is an outlet at the sinn and mirror. I was talking about the room with the toilet, just a toilet.

Going back to the original post, since this one got hijacked by the LED inthusists....
You said yoou are tapping into a bathroom outlet and adding another outlet on the other side. Do some looking around. I woud be surprised if the bathroom outlet isn't already protected by a GFI. In marine heads, the BR always has a GFI beause there's a shock hazard around water. If it isn't, it should be for safety. Make the bathroom outlet a GFI then go to the other side and cut the hole for the new outlet and install a standard outlet. Be sure to observe the Line/Load connections. The bedroom doesn't need GFI protection. A LED would work, but it will be easier to tap into an outlet on the other side of the wall than to try to trace down a 12V line and make a clean connection there. A wiring diagram of your trailer would be helpful if that's what you decide to do. If you are staying in parks, power comsumption of a 110v night light means little and you have an additional outlet that can be used for other things also..
