We have a Star Choice TV dish and were planning on running it with a 2007 eu Honda 2000 generator. Is it safe to do so or can it cause damage to the dish? We were told it could, but thought the Honda pure syn generator was safe. Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

Perfectly safe to run it from the Honda, but it sounds like overkill to watch TV. have you considered powering the dish and TV from a small 400W inverter? Much less hassle...

I think that sch911 has the right answer. Use an inverter and only charge the battery/'s as needed.

We have been running satellite TV and other electronics on Honda generators for years. It is a non-issue.

That is what we have been doing, also. Non-issue with a Honda generator.

For what it's worth, I can run my TV but not the DirecTV receiver with a MSW inverter. The inverter results in too much noise in the satellite signal. I haven't yet tried a PSW inverter. The Honda generator works just fine.

The Honda EU2000i produces power as good as or better than shore power (Usually better) I would not have any fear running any piece of electronics off it up to it's capacity.. Since the StarChoice dish system should draw 100 watts or less (AND I DO MEAN LESS) it's well under the 2,000 capacity of the unit.. In fact you should have enough power to run the sat-receiver, 2 televisions and a microwave with which you pop the corn for "Saturday night at the movies"

Good advise from the posters above.I dry camp useing a 2000eu and a 500W inverter that powers my Starchoice DVR(uses constant running hard drive)and a 19 inch Lcd tv plus my Hughes satellite internet system for several hours each day. Then use the Honda for less than an hour in the morning powering a Cdn.Tire Eliminator smart charger, that charges up to 40 amps. This charges my 2 Trojan T105 batteries from the 50% to 80% range each day to be used again.
All that usage and less than an hour a day of generator run time.
Running off the genny to watch tv etc to me is a waste of gas and causes extra wear and tear.

We have a Honda 3000 and use it for everything when not at an electrical site. It seems to work quite well. We have run the A/C and watched satellite TV when waiting for a ferryboat in a parking lot overnight.
