Can anyone give me any info on where I can find weigh scales to weigh my vehicle and trailer within the Northwest Indiana (Hammond,Munster,Gary, etc) and/or Illinois border? Do rest stops have them? Does truck stops have them?
Thanks
Most larger truck stops, landfills, grain elevators, and feed stores have them. Most everytime I have stopped and asked, it was free ( except truckstops).

Also look in the yellow pages for scrap dealers, waste sites and moving companies, they all have truck scales and will usually let you come in and weigh for a fee. I have a local scrap dealer near me with a certified scale. I drove over and weighed the truck, went home and got the trailer, then weighed both the truck and trailer on the scales, then pulled forward and weighed just the trailer axles.
Not 100% accurate since I didn't disconnect and weight the tongue by itself, nor did I weigh each truck axle independently, but the most important part is I get the total net weight that the trailer adds to the truck when hitched.
CAT scales are good if you have one nearby since they do weigh each axle.
I used a Atlas Van Lines company a few miles away. For a few pence, I got all the info I needed- truck wt, fully-stocked trailer wt, tongue wt- Great peace of mind. Good luck!
