What davidj54 and pondputz said: Not enough truck for that size trailer, probably tongue weight is light, possibly you're not using any sway control. WD hitches don't necessarily include sway control - only some brands do. (Ours does.)

Glad you didn't crash, but do take corrective action before you head out again.

BTW, trailer tires are rated for 65 mph MAX. And most of us tow at 55 mph or so for safety and better gas mileage. 75 is WAY too fast for towing a trailer, even if you had more truck & good sway control.

Good luck to you.

As others have said SLOW DOWN!!! The trailer you have is actually a bit too long for the Tacoma (if you go by wheelbase recomendations) so driving slower would be the first thing that I would do.

I've got a 26' trailer and have no sway problems at all. Speed limit here in California is 55 for towing and I usually do around 60. I personally wouldn't want to pull any faster than that and especially not with a longer or heavier trailer.

Definitely though make sure you're loaded properly and that you have the proper amount of tongue weight and properly adjusted weight distribution hitch. Don't put anything in the bed of the truck either. If you do you're likely over the GVWR of the truck. Exceed that but too much and you're going to have handling problem even with a good WD hitch.

Also as others have said... make sure your tire inflation is correct on both the trailer and the truck. I've got Toyo Open Country A/T's on my truck which are similar to the BFG's that Toyota puts on the Tacoma from the factory with the OR package. 35# of pressure on all four for max load rating on my tires and the BFG's.

Good luck.. may take you a while to dial everything in .. but once again.. slow down!!

You have 2 choices...get a bigger truck enough to handle that length OR get a shorter travel trailer...

Even a light weight 28 foot Jayco is too much trailer for your truck.

The BEST Tacoma in 2008 model tows a max of 5000 lbs.

My 25 ft JayFlight weight 6100 empty.

You need some really competant first hand advice whether your TV and Trailer are a decent match. And not the dealer who sold you either one.

Good luck

What is the speed limit for vehicles pulling a trailer? 65? What is the design limit of the trailer 70? (or 65?) You may need additional anti-sway and a stronger throttle return spring on the tow vehicle (SLOW DOWN)

Part 2:

When I read the subject

I thought I'd be reading about how you had to cover the bait box in the boat cause if you opened it the fish just jumped in on their own (Fish tale)

6500# with the factory tow package. 5000# with an aftermarket Class III hitch.

You are no doubt grossly overweight. If you care about the safety of your family and others, correct this situation immediately

Just wanted to say hey from Memphis. OK, we actually live in Bartlett. I know that at this point it seems that you are being slammed, but listen to what is being offered. There is a lot of experience on this forum. We pull our Jayco 27BH with a F150 with a WD hitch and sway control. Have never had any issues with sway. We're considering taking the trailer to Knoxville in March for UT's parent weekend. Good luck.

You can troll all of the people some of the time, and you can troll some of the people all of the time, but...

Let's see, big trailer, small TV, high speed, overload, TOYOTA. What's left?
