I just upgraded one of my DirecTV receivers to HD. Now, every time I turn the TV/Receiver on, it takes about a minute to start and I get the "Acquiring satellite" info message and progress bar. I have also noticed that I usually have to hit the box power button again after the main power button that turns on the TV and the box. The power button light on the box is red after the first hit and I have to hit the button again to get it to go green. Is this normal on the HD boxes? None of the "standard" boxes do this, and there's picture as soon as they power up.

While traveling, once I acquire the signal and finish the setup I never get the "Acquiring Information" again until I move to our next location. If you are getting a "Acquiring Satellite" notice then you might be trying to acquire a channel that is not available at your location. Usually your local channels which are spot beamed.

It doesn't matter which channel the TV was last on. Once powered off, the receiver always begins at that screen. This dish is installed at the house, so it's not moving between power cycles. I haven't progressed to HD in the fiver yet.

No this is not normal. Did the dish get changed when the receiver got changed? Sounds like the remote has an issue with the way it was programmed. Get on the phone and get them back to fix it.

Yes, got a new dish for the HD. I'll give them a call. Thanks for the info, I didn't want to call just to be told this was "normal" for the HD receivers.

Not normal if that happens all the time. Check your signal strength it should be a minimum of 70% on all conus beams and really should be in the 90+. Your dish might just barely be getting signal causing the box to constantly drop service while off or your box itself could be defective.

UPDATE: DirecTV came out yesterday and replaced the box. It had a bad chip in it was wasn't storing the guide info once it was shut off. The new box works great. Thanks for the info.

Not to get anything started here, but it's my experience that DirecTV has some quality issues, especially with their HD receivers and HD DVR's. I'm on my third HD DVR. This one works real well, only needing an occasional restart.
