Left my TT and now have a 5er. Just wondering what new gadgets and necessities I will need for the 5er. My first trip is the beginning of April so I want to get it all together soon. Some of the things I was thinking of are; leveling, bike rack, tripod for stabalizing hitch pin, water filter.

What about one of those big curved levels that goes on the front of the rig that allows you to see how level it is? Also some various thickness boards to put under the stabilizers.

I would suggest not getting the tripod. I have one and it really doesn't do much good. Look at Rotochoks, handles for landing gear (from Rotochoks), level for pin box, surge protector, enough extention cords, water hoses, sewage lines, pin lock, etc.

A TPM (tire pressure monitor) like Pressure Pro will be a huge benefit. I will never tow without one again.

Also agree with the RotoChoks.

I use a pair of hoppy levelers on my pinbox to aid in leveling. Speaking of leveling, a couple of 2 x 8 boards or RV leveling blocks (aka rv Lego's) will work well to get you level side-to side. You may want to consider a front leg leveler to prevent having to shim up a landing gear.

If you don't have a built in tank flush system, consider a Flush King.

FRS radios to make backing up less stressful between you and the wife.

Anything the wife wants, the wife gets

Look at, and read about, all the different ways of communicating while backing into the camping spot. Then just resign yourself to having the DW giving you directions and telling you where to go.

Duct tape, a roll of bailing wire, several packs of bubble gum and a big wooden mallet and a big roll of EternaBond for repairs of all of the inevitable "oops!" moments!

Actually the steel tripod made by UltraFab keeps our fiver around 70% less jiggly, and some good leveler blocks such as Lynx, the orange "lego" interlocking type (WalMart) are a must...and the rest you'll figure out as the need arises!

You might consider a PUR kitchen faucet mounted 3 stage filter for your drinking water, removes all kinds of stuff from your water, inexpensive to buy, inexpensive filter replacements (Wal-Mart) and after all, why filter ALL the water used in your 5er? Toilet flushing and shower water don't need to be filtered!

Good luck and welcome to the fifth wheel rv life!

I guess it depends on how much $$$ do you want to spend and what's coming from your TT

- JT stabilizers,
- surge protector/voltage cutoff
- upgrade batteries (if you dry camp)
- maxair covers for vents (check type if for fantastic fan).
- weather station (if you are interested in temps in/around rig)
- slide seal treatment
- scotch guard for fabrics, carpet
- generator for dry camping
- knife holder/clock/magazine rack/key holder/extra towel racks/spice rack
- digital thermostat (nice but certainly not required)
- citronella torches/tiki torches or similar
- fishing rod holder (if you fish)
- garbage can(s) recycle bin (I use a leaf bag holder from Home depot)

So much stuff.....so little time to find and buy it all. Seriously go with what you have and bring a pad/paper to write down what you really want or need. good luck
