Thank you all so much for the suggestions. I'm sorry it took so long to answer everyone but we were out all day Friday at an RV show at Valley Forge Convention Center. Saw a very nice 2009 31' Jayco Greyhawk that we liked very much. Problem was that we didn't like what our payments would be. Still negotiating... Thank you all again!

Another vote for Jetty Park. It's right on the ocean. We could see the shuttle assembly building from our rig. You can get get a little closer is you go to the north side of the cruise ship docks. There were some bleachers there. But it gets pretty full early. Better to avoid the crowds and sit at your rig and watch it. If you are watching a shuttle launch, a a mile or two further away does'nt make a difference.

There's one on the 15th too. I was thinking about going down that week for my Mama's annual Mother's day trip. I'm still trying to figure out the pricing at the KSC itself though.
You'd think that, being able to shoot something into orbit, they could make their pricing schedule a bit clearer.

Jetty Park is the best place. The launch for the 12th has been postponed. Jetty Park is very expensive if you are from out of state. $ 47.OO plus . Really nice (not fancy) place though. Fishing pier, beach, watch the ships (sometimes even get to see nuclear subs).

I was checking the NASA website and I found this area for viewing the shuttle launch. nasa.gov/centers/kennedy/about/view/view_shuttle. It will list all sites to view a shuttle launch

Your close if it is a clear night you might have a shot of seeing it go.

Any reason is a good one to get away from the COLD up here, and a trip to Florida (in my opinion) would never be for nothing! I envy you guys down south

Thanks for letting me know. Yes, we usually can see it as it rises. Funny, I was stationed at Vandenberg for 4 yrs in the 80s. The night launches of the Titans were spectacular....so can only imagine what a shuttle launch must look like!!!
