Is the box required with the newer TV's. I am not sure how it would work with the Concertone Garbage.

In short.....If you are trying to use over the air antenna for the TV and the TV does not have a digital tuner you do need one, If you are using sat or cable you do not need one.

There is a FAQ here and this gets discussed all the time in the thechnology area http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/22125103.cfm

Is it a flat panel or a tube? If it's a tube no way it's digital. Scan for channels and see if you pick up the digital ones. They will be something like 15.2, 21.1, 47.1. If it only picks up 15, 21, 47 thoes are not digital channels. The front of the tv or the owners manual should tell you if you have a digital tuner.

What do I need to do?

If you have digital TV(s), you do not have to do anything. A TV is digital if it has a digital tuner (ATSC). Digital TVs should have a label; for example, "Digital Tuner." Note: "Digital Ready" does not mean it has a digital tuner.

One way to tell if a TV is digital is to look at the remote control. A remote for a digital TV will have a period '.' or a dash '-' with the numbers so that one can enter 7.1, 7.2 (7-1, 7-2) etc.

You could check the on-screen input menu to see if digital or DTV is offered. My Vizio remote has buttons for NTSC (analog) and Digital. The set may have separate inputs for analog and digital. There are many ways to tell.

Most newer tv's are already set up for digital. No need to get a converter box even with TT antanae. You should have an option to use digital from your remote or menu option as mentioned above.

The flat-panel Venturer TV (that replaced the original Concertone piece of garbage)in my 2008 Rockwood 8272S receives DTV without a converter box. If you are still using a Concertone TV that hasn't yet died, it may very well die soon. I don't know if I'd get a converter box for a TV that is about to die.

On the other hand, all the RF TV stations are now transmitting in digital as well as analog. If you selected the autotune mode, you may have already been receiving DTV without realizing it.

i have a tube tv that picks up dtv, bought it at wally right after i got my tt trutech brand.

it has an analog tuner and a digital tuner... however i've heard that if you spend a little more the better tv's will pick up the name of the shows so you have a tv guide built into the tv like on cable or satalite.

Concertone AM/FM/DVD/CD/TV tuner (i.e.ZX-500 & 550) is not a digital TV receiver. The only thing digital about it is the DVD player.
This, according to Concertone.
A digital converter box will work with it because you will be hooking into the antenna.
