I know the question was rhetorical, but the answer is the latter.

Why then is there not a ban on pencils ! My kid uses them in school and at home, how many times have you seen a kid put a pencil in his mouth. Happens all the time!

Makes you wonder, are lawmakers really concerned about kids' health? Or is this just a way to curb our industry?

Trying to be the voice of reason here, sometimes good intentions go awry. Even the best legislation can have unforeseen consequences. I don't believe the intention was to decimate an industry.

This legislation was in response to the recent cases of lead poisoning in the news from cheap******children's toys coming from China.

As for the comments about the children mouthing motorcycle and ATV parts that is just too funny! The child certainly can rub their eyes, pick their nose, or put their fingers in their mouths. If they have handled something with lead content it will be transferred to their body in those mentioned ways.

Here is the AMA rapid response page. You can send a letter to your congressperson about this or other issues like land closures. Fill in the information, and the letter will go to YOUR legislator according to your zip code.

I'm all for protecting the children but this legislation obviously has some kinks that need to be worked out.

No, pencils used to be made with lead. That was a long, long time ago.

So I'm at a dealer today when hear about a father wanting to buy his son his first ATV a 50cc - the expression on his face when he was told that they couldn't sell him one really dug in. This kid is of age for the ATV and has been looking forward to it... talk about heartbreaking news.

The point made by another customer is why in the world did we just not ban all Chinese products that caused this problem in the first place. Why impact everyone else over one county that can not seem to control its production process.

Have you take the time to write or call your Senator or Representative yet?

Macs Dad - When I was at the Polaris dealership last week they mentioned they had new stickers for the 90cc that now classified them as being for ages 13 and up. The new laws are for kids 12 and under - so that is how they are getting around the new laws at least for now and their website affirms this.
