This site: www.winegard.com/wingman tells about the installation and also shows that from the edge of the antenna to the tip of the Wingman you need a minimum of 10 inches of clearance. I have not purchased mine yet. Doing research as well. My antenna sets near the edge of the motorhome and needed to know if it would stick over the edge.

If your antenna is mounted on the left side of the roof, and folds down to the rear, then the Wingman mounts pointing towards the center, not the edge.

I got to this thread through a link so I don't know if my question has been addressed earlier: Does the Wingman take the place of a separate (inside) digital converter box? We have a HDTV in living area and a LCD (non-HD) Sharp LC-20SH3U set in the bedroom.

"Does the Wingman take the place of a separate (inside) digital converter box? "

No it just improves the antenna when receiving weak signals.

SCV Jeff I can see Winegard linked your research to their website . It looks like you may have done more research than them ? As you are an independent evaluator I hope your check is in the mail ( At least a gift cert ) !

I got my Wingman for free . My friend bought one but it hit his A/C .
He gave it to me . Well its not really for free because I will buy something for his MH .

It's a good thing your friend hadn't seen THIS post or you might have had to buy your own..

My question is , Will this
wingman work on an AntennaTek antenna? The AntennaTek looks and acts just like a Winegard.

can YOU make it FIT on there ?

if you can make mount it, it will likely work, its a passive director array to add signal gain and rejection on the UHF band.

I did tests with an analog tv signal strengtth meter on analog signals on CH 28 30 32 34 and showed close to 6 db gain on all from the original without the wingman installed. Analog signals were translator LP at a distance of about 50 miles.

That's twice what they claim or what the analyzer measured.

The first antenna I bought was the Winegard one with two bowties and two long rods. Very directional and no amp so only three stations. I bough that Philips gray amplified one at Walmart. You have to point the sharp side towards the signal. If you mount it sideways you get more channels. It would not get my local VHF digital signal.

So I bought a Winegard Batwing Sensar III with built in amp. It picks up signals front and back. I pointed it towards Lancaster and got WGAL VHF digital and PBS 33.1 along with other stations. Channel 27.1 (ABC) is a no go! Out the back of the antenna I get three Philly stations 3.1 17.1 17.2 and 10.1 10.2 10.3

I added the Wingman and the front of the antenna became more sensitive. All channels increased but the 27.1 The back of the antenna became less sensitive.

I flipped the antenna around and got more Philly channels but I lost my PBS 33.1 completely. (UGH!)

So the Wingman does improve signals. I did learn the Wingard is more sensitive out the front even with the Wingman off. The quick screws on the Wingman can be removed with a philips screwdrive. Be gentle. Hope this helps somebody.

Oh yea! I also had a Radio Shack 150 mile UHF yagi. Almost no signal made it down the coax after using a transformer. With an external amp it got 4 stations.
