We have a 33 foot Open Road with a double slide in the Kitchen/Living area. It has two chairs at the very back and a sofa and dining table on one slide out. The tv is located on the opposite slide out. We were considering taking the sofa out and replacing it with two recliners. Has anyone else done this and where do you begin? ....I am sure the recliners have to be a certain size to fit the doorway and then fit in the area where the sofa is!!!... Would you suggest we talk to the dealer we purchased the fiver from?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Melanie

We bought two regular recliners. The backs come off, so they do fit through the door. The sofa was stand alone, not fixed to the TT, so you could move it. Problem was getting the sofa out. Was a sleeper sofa. DH had to take the back off to fit out the door (loosen the upholstery on back and remove screws that held the back to the seat part of the sofa.) Gave us a lot more room and more comfort sitting to watch tv.

Melanie, you will probably just get a blank stare from the dealer. Sure, you can replace the furniture, the only limitations will be the "footprint" of the replacement recliners. Carefully measure the area you wish to put the recliners, then take those measurements with you to a furniture store. Recline the chairs to see how they will fit and ask if they come apart for installation. A lot of times you can get the chair in through the doorway by reclining them fully, then snaking them through the door. Take a look at the pix in my signature, you will see that I too, have replaced the sofa with chairs. Good luck!

I hated the queen pullout sofa, so I pulled it out in one piece and replaced it with a regular Lang?? recliner. The sofa was not tied down. There was room in the slide to completely recline, so it has the same size footprint as the sofa. Our slide also has the buffet dining area. Recliner weighed less than the sofa too.

We replaced our FlexSteel recliners with Palliser Euro recliners and hassocks from JC Penneys. But in my old 5th wheel I replaced my sofa with what was called an "INCLINER". It was a "wall hugger" unit where the reclining seats actually stayed within the solid frame so the frame could be placed against the wall. It was a Berkshire but I am not sure any one makes them now. It sat two side by side and took up very little room when closed and fully extended like a recliner when in use. Look for one, it may be what you want.

I did that very same thing. Back easily comes off the sofa and out thru the door, no sweat!. The backs usually clips (locks) on the chairs and those too slip easily thru the door and Quila', DW is happy!! JMHO

We have removed the RV furniture out of all 5 5th wheels we have owned. And have used Lazy Boy furniture. We have a Lazy Boy Love set re-cline away now and have a Lazy Boy recliner and a Glider rocker at home base we use instead of the couch. We have a 92" couch in our MS but will be removing it. When we got the MS we were told you had to remove the rear window to get it out, because the back doesn't come off the Couch. We have since learned it can be removed thru the front door. We have never found the RV funiture to be comfortable, we have had the Ultra Leather recliners and still haven't found anything that was good. GBY...
