This last weekend Kim Spot & I went to Michigan’s Upper peninsula to get away, do some hiking, sledding and try to see some of the water falls in their winter state. We were successful going up north, a little hiking and lots of sledding but very little water fall watching. Turns out Michigan does not maintain the parks during the winter so you really need snow shoes or a snowmobile to access the parks.
Here we’re loaded up and I realize I covered up the taillight with the toboggan.
So I added my magnetic towing lights to the steel bumper.
On the road to Manistique MI and Lake Michigan on the left
Here’s our camp spot for the weekend, the parking lot of the Thunder bowl located in the Hiawatha forest
We have the whole place to ourselves until Saturday afternoon when two couples and their kids came to sled for the day and left before dark, here’s all the women trying our toboggan
I didn’t think to measure the hills (with the GPS) but I wish I had, they were tall enough that we had to take breaks on the way back up
We drove some of the plowed forest roads on our way to see Water falls in Munising MI
This one had no clear access and we tried to hike in but with snow up to our butts (literally) we had to turn around and go to the next one
This one was right on the side of the road so we parked on the shoulder and hiked all the way to the other side of the road (boy, was I beat)
This one was the only one we found with a plowed parking lot but the path to the falls was just packed down by the foot traffic
Here’s another shot of my favorite folks
and here’s a tuckered out Spot
On Sunday we went over to Big Springs, You can ride on this large raft and look 45’ down at the bottom and see the sand dance as the water pushes out of the springs.
I even let Kim drive, the raft is held in place by a cable and as you turn the large wheel the raft travels along the cable
The fun part about the springs was that the parking lot was not plowed, but it was packed down by all the snowmobiles. We went in and could tell that it was going to be fun when it came time to leave, I tried to turn around to leave but became stuck even with four wheel drive. Out comes the snow shovel and a bit of rocking and we started to move again so without hesitation I just backed all the way out. Woo Hoo
For those of you that are really bored by now here's some clips of our sledding...
This one has a slow start but a great ending, even though you can't see it
and finally a 360 of the Thunderbowl

Of course, we think you're nuts. All that white stuff is why we leave MIchigan and spend the winter in Arizona. 82 yesterday, 84 the day before, and today is off to a great start.
That toboggan ride looks like fun.. thanks for the report/photos/video. I'll add upper Michigan to my list of places to go see... (but probably not in winter)
