Personally I think it is both interesting and pertinent. I realize this group isn't a cross section of America. I also realize the current problems in this country were initially caused by a relatively small percentage of the population who purchased more than they could afford. It isn't accurate but still interesting to me.

I owe considerably less than the house is worth (even after prices plummeted) and have no plans to sell anythie soon. I had planned on paying it off completely by 2012, but that was extended a couple years...I had to get a line of credit to replace the furnace and un-do the catastrophe that was my roof. It wouldn't have been so bad except the furnace died halfway through the roof job, so waiting wasn't an option.

Personally, I do not feel that the status of my home ownership is anybodies business but my own.

Own it free and clear and have for years. Would never want to sell it either. We're very fortunate.

Just to give you an idea about the differences in property tax rates, our house is worth (?) just under $200k and my property tax is less than $400. No, I am not joking.
What do you pay in annual state income taxes?

No, still have 17 years to go. Luckily I'm a nurse and the economy didn't effect us as badly as most people even though husband was laid off for 6 months from Gulfstream. He has been back at work now for 2 weeks! Hope that means good news for everyone.

I'm hoping right in there with you! Maybe that is a good sign--spring is coming and maybe we can kick this national funk we are in when the sun hits us.
