I know we are not suppose to do certain types of postings on the forum , BUT , I was just wondering . Does anyone here in the Valley know of a good place to get a good broiled (not deep fried ) shrimp dinner ? It would be nice if the location would be somewhere between Donna and Mission

DaSu. After living there for 5 years and originally being from south Louisiana, I may be somewhat(very) partial to the type of seafood I like but....the only place I ever found that had decent or good shrimp of any kind whether it be fried, boiled, grilled etc.... would be Daddy's or Dirty Al's(same owners). Both are on the island. I know you wanted somewhere more mid to upper valley but these two are the best by far. Actually only good ones period in my opinion but then again, like I said I'm originally from south Louisiana and very picky about my seafood. I would say your best bet as far as mid to upper valley might be Progresso. Never looked for any boiled shrimp there but as I'm sure you know, the fried shrimp are in no shortage there so I would think boiled shrimp wouldn't be either. Hope this helps at least a little.

fishinrvg , thank you for your honest opinion . THE DW and I were on SPI last week one day and stopped at Dirty Als just to see what it was like and did that fresh shrimp in their meat case ever look good . We should have sat down and treated ourselves then , but we didn't unfortunitly . So ever since, we've been hungry for some shrimp that is not deep fried . Oh well , looks like there is not too much available around here or others are bashful with their experiences .

Last year after eating at Dirty Al's in South Padre I decided to buy a pound of shrimp to go. Oh, I thought it was so expensive but sure was worth every penny. What a treat. I asked to have it packed on ice to go and they sure accomodated. When I got back to the RV I froze it and had them a couple of weeks later and boy were they good.

DaSu, I think the only solution is to make another trip to beautiful SPI Hey, soak up some rays and getcha some good shrimp. Life is good And I'm quite sure you won't be disappointed in Daddy's or Dirty Al's. Only thing is try to avoid Dirty Al's on Sundays if the biker crowd or big crowds in general(waiting for a table) are not your thing. It gets packed on Sunday's. Daddy's will get crowded on Sundays with the overflow from Dirty Al's, just not as bad. But please do yourself a favor, get some fried shrimp as well. I know you wanted some boiled shrimp but the fried are first class and that's coming from an old coonarse.

Joe's Crab Shack in McAllen does a pretty good job. They have broiled or grilled shrimp which I like better than deep fried.

Here's their menu web site;- http://www.joescrabshack.com/menus.php?LC=CORP

The last 3 years we have made a trip from Denver to Dirty Al's. It's a lot like RVing, almost as soon as we get home we want to go back. All these miles because years ago I asked on the forum any place to find good sea food and several(most)said Dirty Al's.

On fried shrimp(which you didn't ask about..I know)Dirty Al's has the best I've ever had. Although I've never looked, Dirty Al's "probably" has broiled shrimp, I've just never checked.
