We have the 32 gallon Barker 4 wheel. It is heavy when full, but once hooked to the TV it's easy to go dump. Learn to watch as you dump into the tote as they fill quickly and can surprise you in a hurry and it's messy.

I greatly appreciate your responses! I had decided on the 27-gallon tote, but I wanted to to be sure I had considered all the ramifications. If we have 3-4 adults, the gray water tank will probably fill at three days---and I do use one of those water miser shower heads. We haven't done more than three nights yet in a national forest/state park without FHU, so this is a new experience for us. Until last year, we had a Coleman pop-up for these type of trips and the decisions were much simpler!

We have two twelve gallon units. Filled, they each weigh over 95 lbs and are a little clumbersome to get into the PU, but are manageable. (A 27 gal unit will weigh over 200 lbs when full and a 35 gallon, close to 300!) While the larger ones are "towable", many NF and State campgrounds don't have dump stations on site and you may have to go out on a road, or highway to get to one. They aren't made to travel at even close to reasonable speeds

I suggest you search out an Eagle Scout or Scoutmaster to give you and your family lessons on how to conserve water when camping.

I have a 27 gal Thetford that I use quite often. I sit it up on the tailgate of the truck and use a macerator pump to fill it and a dedicated hose to use at the dump station. I use it for black and gray both. I have a 27-gallon Thetford but would not recommend them because they will not empty completely

I have a 15 gallon tote. When filled I can handle the weight and just put it in the bed of my PU for a ride to the dump station. Ive got 3 women in the family so yes, we...I mean they, are waterhogs. So we usually try to get full hookup sites but if we cant (like our State parks) the tote sure comes in handy!

I think my tote is only a 20 gallon tote. When possible, I can tow it behind a bike, and only fill it about 3/4 full when I do.

I also bought a pump so I can put the tote on my truck bed and use the electric pump to fill the tote. Then, I can drive it to the dump station and use a standard sewer hose to empty the tank.

I have never filled up the gray water tank on a campout yet. I am just trying to anticipate a worst case scenario--that's a product of my military training. Being a military guy who has had to bathe for weeks on end with just a water buffalo and steel pot helmet makes me appreciate your most helpful suggestion.

Some times your forced to educate family the hard way. Go some place where spaces do have hook-ups. Hide the water fill hose, take along some pails, and when you near run out of water, make them fetch carry it and pour it into the filler. You can always turn off the pump when they are in the shower. It always gets their attention.
