The area of the island between the Destin and Fort Walden Beach bridges is probably about 6 miles.

Much of this are is set aside for nature... birds and turtles

THis is looking across Choctawhatchee Bay toward Eglin AFB. Those are large trees in the distance on the other side.

The area near the bridge to Fort Walton Beach, it was built up a few years ago... the hotels and condos cut off beach access for people that had lived on the island for years.

This area is called Okaloosa Island... but it appears to me that it is really just a part of Santa Rosa Island.

Just west of this development is baricaded... by a section of Eglin AFB.

The area to the right in this picture is open to the public with bay beech access... we have spent many days back there... seperated by eagle habitat from the highway that you see... US-98

In a way the town doesn't look like much... it's old, and military... but you can get anything you need here... absolutely anything.

A lot of flowers have "run away" in a charming way... we saw these as we turned down a side street on the 8th of March.... loved the colors.

We were soon welcomed by the military presence... an Osprey I think... We were looking for the F-35... they have at least one here for testing in the real world.
