Congrats to you! We winter in the Chattanooga area, it's a great town.

Congratulations! Maybe you should put her in charge of your retirement account!

Good choice, the flute. When you have to run through the rain to the audition hall with your instrument tucked inside your coat, you don't want to be a cello or Sousaphone player.

Well, she is "in charge of" her college account as her scholarships are actually twice what we put away for her college (even before this current slump).

I wanted her to get a job, she and the school counselor wanted her to spend the time looking for scholarships and studying for the various college tests.

For DD#1, her idea seemed to pay off, although she is up for a summer internship at a major lab in the area. That would give her work experience, money, and experience in her general field.

You will see another one of these threads if she gets that internship.

It sure makes you feel good about having a child in college and not paying a penny. My daughter is in her second year of college and is in Honors and has made the dean's list every semester. She is getting all expenses paid (including living) by the tribe she is registered with.

UT Chattanooga. The UHON program really looks good.

It's not some fancy East Coast university, but we think it is a good fit for our daughter.

How can you let her go to TN???? j/k I think the less fancy the university the better it may be. I am currently enrolled in a tiny university called Mississippi University for Women (which by the way is co-ed since 1980) and it only has 2400 students and a class ratio of 1:12. My graduate courses have 7 students each. Here is one reason I chose MUW.

It is not about the state or the name, but about the quality of the program she is studying.

The "east coast universities" aren't necessarily all they are cracked up to be! Congrats-you should be proud. And not all "free ride" kids take it for granted. Much of it depends on how they got the free ride. In your case I don't think you need to worry but I do agree that having her help out some will be a good lesson in responsibility. We will be heading to Worcester Poly and Rensellaer Poly in April & May. UMass Lowell is also on the list. I only hope we are as fortunate as you with our son.

Congratulations to her!! I know how relieved you must be. It cost a pretty penny to send a child to college so this is a wonderful event. I wish her a very happy college experience. (from a woman who has a freshman in college )

The only "bad news" is I've got 2 more to get into college. They should do okay, but I can always worry...
